Deoria- In what can be seen as a major laxity on part of the health department in Deoria district of Uttar Pradesh, several unregistered nursing homes and pathology centers are operating here, despite the Yogi Adityanath-led UP government's emphasis on improving health care facilities at the ground level.

According to sources, nearly 100 nursing homes and pathology centers in the district are running illegally. Around three days back, the case of a new-born dying during the operation of a pregnant woman in a 'nursing home' had come to light.

Though the police took six people, including the said nursing home's operator and doctor into custody after registering cases under Section 304 A, 417 IPC, they were later released.

The sources said there have been reports about numerous mishaps occurring in such nursing homes which are run illegally, in the past as well. Though the health department talks about taking action after such cases are reported, no suitable action is taken against such nursing homes and pathology centers as soon as the matter cools down, they added.

Reportedly, there are many such pathology centers in the district, where reports about a patient's blood, urine, etc are being given without the presence of efficient doctors.
