In order to closely inspect the living conditions of the sex workers at the red light area of the capital, the US Ambassador to India Richard Verma accompanied by the US Permanent Representative to the United Nations Samantha Power and the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) Chairperson Swati Maliwal paid a visit to GB road, recently
The ambassadors are reported to have expressed satisfaction over the noted improvement in the healthcare facilities in the area. More importantly, the supply of condoms to the sex workers there.
The ambassadors were further apprised of the situation in the area, and more issues concerning the system of the area, including the various challenges faced by the government, the police and NGOs.
The Commission has also sought support of the ambassadors and the American Chamber of Commerce for the rehabilitation project planned by the DCW for those willing to come out of the profession.
