Woman doctor commits self immolation in Tamil Nadu

Tirunelveli: A 52-year-old woman doctor died after she allegedly set herself ablaze following a squabble with her husband at Thalaiyuthu, here midnight last night.


Police said M Usha Rani, who was running a clinic at Thalaiyuthu bazaar locality had a dispute with her husband Murali (55), who was working as an engineer in India Cements Limited over some domestic issue last night. It was alleged that Murali suspected the fidelity of Usha Rani.

Depressed over the domestic quarrel, the doctor doused herself with ethyl alcohol and set herself on fire. She succumbed to her injuries on the spot.


Based on a complaint from her family members, Thalaiyuthu police rushed to the spot and removed the body to the government hospital for post-mortem.
Further investigations were on.
