Anaesthesia Overdosed: Retired civil surgeon booked for death of 19 year old
Patiala: A retired civil surgeon has been booked recently by the local police for 19-year old died with an alleged anaesthesia overdose. The case against the doctor was registered after the arrival of medical examination report.
The case concerns a teenager, identified as Manleen Kaur, of Tripuri area in Patiala city, who was taken to the doctor who was running a private hospital after the retirement from his service.
The father of Manleen informed that she suffered pain in her lower abdomen after which she was taken to the private health centre of the accused doctor for the treatment on September 10, 2018. The doctor claimed that the patient was suffering from Hernia and so she urgently had to undergo the surgery.
The doctor injected anaesthesia to the patient before the operation, however, the girl did not get her senses back even after the surgery. The patient was immediately shifted to another hospital where the doctors there declared her brought dead.

Following the incident, a complaint against the doctor was filed in the civil lines Patiala police under sections of IPC including negligence causing death. The police informed that a high doses of anaesthesia was given to the patient which turned out to be the cause of her death, which was also confirmed by the medical examination reports.
Sub Inspector Mewa Singh, an investigating officer informed TOI, "The girl was taken to Sahara hospital where she died because of the doctor's negligence who overdosed the patient during anaesthesia process. The girl's father, a farmer, lodged a complaint with us but the investigation was marked into the matter. The post mortem was conducted and the reports were sent for examination. Now after the reports are tabled we have registered the case against the doctor after taking legal advice. No arrests have been made but the accused will be nabbed soon. The medical examination reports have confirmed that the overdose of anaesthesia medicine was the main cause of the death."
