Goa launches Ayurveda health camps on CM Sawant's birthday

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant
Panaji: Marking the birthday of Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant on April 24, the Goa government has announced the organisation of Ayurveda health camps across the state to promote preventive healthcare and overall wellness. The initiative will begin from Sankhalim and will be extended to other parts of Goa in a phased manner.
Health Minister Shri Subhash Shirodkar, announcing the initiative on the social media platform 'X', highlighted the Chief Minister’s focus on public welfare over the past seven years. He said the initiative highlights the government’s focus on improving healthcare services and encouraging people to adopt healthier lifestyles through traditional systems of medicine. The camps are also aimed at raising awareness about Ayurveda and its emphasis on disease prevention rather than just treatment.
Dr. Pramod Sawant, born on April 24, 1973, is an Indian politician and a trained Ayurveda doctor who currently serves as the Chief Minister of Goa, a position he has held since March 2019. Before entering active politics, he built his professional foundation in the field of Ayurveda, which continues to influence his approach to healthcare and public welfare. He has represented the Sanquelim constituency in the Goa Legislative Assembly as a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) since 2012.

Born in Mapusa, Goa, Dr. Sawant is the son of Shri Pandurang Sawant. He obtained a Bachelor of Ayurveda, Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) degree from Ganga Education Society's Ayurvedic medical college in Kolhapur. His background as an Ayurveda practitioner has been a defining aspect of his career, shaping his interest in preventive healthcare and holistic well-being. He later completed a Master’s degree in Social Work from Tilak Maharashtra University in Pune, further strengthening his involvement in community development.
Dr. Sawant began his political journey with the BJP and first contested the 2008 by-election from the Pale constituency, though he did not win. After constituency delimitation, he successfully contested the 2012 Goa Assembly elections from Sanquelim and secured a decisive victory.
