Now Ayurvedic practitioners can issue medical certificate for driving license
Thiruvananthapuram: With the director of Indian System of Medicine making a rectification stating that BAMS (Bachelor of Ayurveda, Medicine, and Surgery) doctors are equally qualified like MBBS doctors to grant medical certificates, Ayurvedic practitioners will now have the authority to issue medical fitness certificates for driving license related process.
Confirmation to this effect was given by Kerala transport minister Antony Raju who stated that registered doctors graduated in Ayurvedic medicine has been given the right to issue medical fitness certificate for obtaining the driving license.
Only allopathic doctors and postgraduates in Ayurvedic medicine till now were eligible to issue medical certificates for providing driving license.

However, the minister recently issued the order stating that qualified and registered medical practitioners of Ayurveda now have the authority to medical certificates for getting the driving licenses, reports Mathrubhumi.
The decision comes after the director of Indian System of Medicine made a rectification stating that BAMS (Bachelor of Ayurveda, Medicine, and Surgery) doctors are equally qualified like MBBS doctors to grant medical certificates.
The transport minister also added that the decision was taken after repeated requests made by authorities at various levels.
