Taking Ayurveda Global: GAMC Akhnoor hosts Ayurveda Beyond Borders seminar

'Ayurveda Beyond Borders' Seminar
Akhnoor: A one-day international seminar on “Ayurveda Beyond Borders” was held at Government Ayurvedic Medical College (GAMC), Akhnoor, on April 30, focusing on the expanding global relevance of Ayurveda and its integration into contemporary healthcare systems. The event brought together experts, academicians, and healthcare professionals to discuss the advancement of traditional medicine in a modern context.
Organised under the guidance of Dr Ashutosh Gupta, Principal/Dean of Government Medical College Jammu and GAMC Akhnoor, the seminar witnessed participation from both national and international speakers, reflecting Ayurveda’s growing recognition worldwide, reports Dailyexcelsior.
The keynote speakers included Dr Varun Suthra, Director of International Relations at KIIT University and KISS University; Dr Nik Gugger, Member of Parliament from Switzerland; Dr Sachin Bhagwat, Chief Scientific Officer at Wockhardt; and Mr. Anuurag Arora from VFS Global.

The seminar was attended by Sonika Parihar, Administrative Officer at Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu, as the chief guest. She highlighted the importance of academic platforms in bridging traditional systems of medicine with modern healthcare practices.
Discussions during the seminar centred on strengthening Ayurveda’s global positioning through sustained research, innovation, and supportive policy frameworks. Speakers highlighted the need to align traditional knowledge systems with contemporary scientific standards to enhance credibility and wider acceptance. Dr Varun Suthra emphasised the importance of adopting evidence-based approaches, encouraging rigorous research, and fostering international collaborations to ensure Ayurveda’s integration into global healthcare systems.
Dr Nik Gugger spoke about the increasing acceptance and recognition of Ayurveda across European countries and stressed the importance of cross-cultural dialogue in healthcare to build trust and awareness among diverse populations.
Dr Sachin Bhagwat discussed ongoing advancements in scientific validation, research methodologies, and clinical studies that are strengthening Ayurveda’s global standing. Meanwhile, Anuurag Arora elaborated on the role of global mobility, international collaborations, and institutional platforms in facilitating Ayurveda’s outreach, enabling practitioners and knowledge systems to reach wider international audiences.
Among those present were Dr Narinder Sharma, Professor and Head of Department; Dr Aman Gupta, Vice Principal; Dr Twinkle Gupta and Dr Shailej Gupta. The seminar highlighted the importance of collaboration, research, and structured academic dialogue in promoting Ayurveda at a global level.
