UP announces Rs 613.4 crore annual action plan to boost AYUSH healthcare

Lucknow: In a major push to strengthen AYUSH healthcare infrastructure and education in Uttar Pradesh, the state has approved a Rs 613.42 crore Annual Action Plan for 2026-27. The plan proposes the establishment of 23 new AYUSH Medical Units, introduction of Artificial Intelligence (AI) courses in 17 AYUSH colleges, expansion of healthcare services in underserved areas, and the establishment of new homoeopathic medical colleges and hospitals.
Alongside the expansion plans, Chief Secretary Shri S.P. Goyal directed officials to accelerate delayed AYUSH infrastructure projects and ensure that newly created institutions become operational without unnecessary delays.
The decisions were taken during the 12th Governing Body meeting of the National Ayush Mission (NAM)-Uttar Pradesh, chaired by the Chief Secretary. The approved Annual Action Plan will now be sent to the Ministry of Ayush, Government of India, for final approval, reports The Times of India.
Expressing dissatisfaction over the slow pace of construction of government homoeopathic medical colleges and hospitals, Goyal instructed the Principal Secretary, AYUSH, and the Mission Director to conduct monthly project reviews and regular field inspections to ensure timely completion. He also directed that the creation of required posts should proceed simultaneously with construction so that institutions can begin functioning immediately after the buildings are ready.

The meeting also focused on improving the quality, accessibility and effectiveness of Ayush healthcare services through the upgradation of Ayush dispensaries, hospitals and Arogya Mandirs across the state.
Under the proposed budget, Rs 458.99 crore has been earmarked for new initiatives, while Rs 154.42 crore will support ongoing activities. Besides setting up 23 new Ayush Medical Units, the plan proposes the construction of Government Homoeopathic Medical Colleges and Hospitals in Jhansi and Shahjahanpur, establishment of new Ayush dispensaries, and continued strengthening of existing infrastructure.
In a significant boost to AYUSH education, the state has proposed the introduction of AI courses in 17 Ayush colleges and the establishment of 51 smart classrooms at a cost of Rs 3.03 crore. A girls' hostel at the Government Ayurveda College, Varanasi, will also be constructed with an investment of Rs 1.78 crore, reports Jagran.
Highlighting ongoing public health initiatives, Principal Secretary Ayush Shri Ranjan Kumar informed that the Public Health Programme in Lakhimpur Kheri screened, counselled and referred 2,12,435 patients during 2025-26. He added that Ayush Mobile Medical Units are currently delivering healthcare services in underserved areas of Bahraich, Balrampur, Chandauli, Chitrakoot, Fatehpur, Shravasti, Siddharthnagar, Sonbhadra and Kushinagar.
The meeting also reviewed efforts to strengthen Ayush-based management of osteoarthritis and other musculoskeletal disorders at Ayurveda colleges in Lucknow, Varanasi, Prayagraj, Jhansi, Pilibhit, Bareilly, Muzaffarnagar and Atarra. In addition, the 'Karunya' Integrated Supportive and Palliative Care Programme is continuing to provide home-based care for patients with lifestyle-related and mental health conditions across 55 development blocks in the state.
