AYUSH Ministry sets Guinness World Record with 4.35 lakh viewers for yoga live stream

Global Yoga Session Ahead of IDY 2026
New Delhi: The Ministry of AYUSH has set a new Guinness World Record by achieving the highest number of viewers for a YouTube Live Yoga Stream, recording more than 4.35 lakh verified viewers joining a global online yoga session ahead of the International Day of Yoga 2026.
The session was organised in collaboration with the Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga and Habuild as part of the run-up to this year’s International Day of Yoga celebrations. According to the Ministry, the event surpassed the previous record of 2.46 lakh viewers, set in 2024, reports UNI.
Congratulating participants from India and several other countries who joined the global online yoga session, Union Ayush Minister Mr Prataprao Jadhav said the achievement reflected the steadily growing acceptance of yoga across the world as a way of life. He noted that yoga had evolved beyond being merely a physical exercise and was increasingly being embraced as a comprehensive approach to health, wellness and personal development.
According to the minister, the widespread participation in the event demonstrated how yoga continues to gain recognition as an effective means of promoting holistic health, mental well-being and a balanced lifestyle.

Addressing the participants, Mr Jadhav emphasised the importance of adopting the concept of “Yoga 365” and urged citizens to make yoga an integral part of their daily routine rather than limiting their engagement to the annual observance of International Day of Yoga. He said regular practice of yoga could play a significant role in improving physical fitness, mental resilience and overall quality of life. The minister added that encouraging year-round participation in yoga would contribute to the vision of creating a healthier, more productive and empowered India.
The minister further stated that the global online session had been organised with the objective of conveying a strong message that yoga possesses the unique ability to connect and unite people across geographical, cultural and linguistic boundaries. He observed that the event showcased the universal appeal of yoga and highlighted its role in fostering harmony, inclusivity and mutual understanding among people from diverse backgrounds. He also encouraged young people to incorporate yoga into their daily lifestyle and inspire their families, friends and communities to embrace the practice for long-term health benefits.
During the live session, participants collectively performed the Common Yoga Protocol under the expert guidance of the Habuild team. The session included a series of yoga practices designed to promote flexibility, strength, mindfulness and overall well-being, with participants following the protocol simultaneously from different parts of the world.
India will celebrate the International Day of Yoga 2026 on June 21 under the theme “Yoga for Healthy Ageing.” The main national celebration is scheduled to be held in Kolkata later this month, according to the Ministry of Ayush.
