Intracoronary Imaging-Guided PCI Linked to Fewer Cardiovascular Events, Suggests Study

USA: Researchers have found in a meta-analysis published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology that intracoronary imaging-guided percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) was associated with fewer cardiovascular events compared with angiography-guided PCI. The findings support the potential benefit of using intravascular imaging to optimize stent placement and procedural outcomes.
- Target lesion failure was reduced by 28% with imaging-guided PCI (RR 0.72).
- Cardiac mortality was 27% lower (RR 0.73).
- Myocardial infarction decreased by 14% (RR 0.86).
- Target vessel revascularization was reduced by 31% (RR 0.69).
- Stent thrombosis was 45% lower (RR 0.55).
- All-cause mortality was reduced by 18% (RR 0.82).
