NMC proposes 3-year Rotatory Headship in Medical College Depts, invites feedback

Proposing changes in the Postgraduate Medical Education Regulations 2023, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has issued amendments and invited feedback from the stakeholders, which must be submitted within the specified deadline.

NMC's draft regulations, "Post Graduate Medical Education Regulations (Amendment), 2025," were published in the official Gazette on May 30, 2025. In this draft, the Commission has proposed to introduce a rotatory headship and include M.S. (Traumatology and Surgery) as a feeder broad speciality qualification for M.Ch Neurosurgery, M.Ch Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, and M.Ch. Vascular Surgery courses.

Regulation 7.1 of the PGMER 2023 discusses the structure of a Department, its Units, its Faculties- Professors, Associate Professors, Assistant Professors, and other members of the Department, including Senior and Junior Residents. Regarding headship, the 2023 Regulations stated that "Each Department will be headed by a Professor."

Now, to amend this rule, NMC in the recent draft regulation (Amendment), mentioned that Department headship shall be changed on a rotation basis every three years among Professors and Associate Professors who are eligible to become Professors.

'Humiliated in Public, Apologise in Public': Doctors Reject Goa Health Minister's Apology

Amid the ongoing controversy over the suspension of a senior doctor at Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) by Goa Health Minister Vishwajit Rane, the concerned doctor has rejected an apology tendered by the Minister on the social media platform X.

Calling it a "studio apology", Dr. Rudresh Kuttikar, who was suspended by the Rane, demanded a public apology from the Minister at the Casualty Department of the hospital, where he had been berated by the Minister on Saturday.

Speaking to The Indian Express, Dr. Kuttikar said, "The minister should come to the Casualty Department and publicly apologise at the same place."

Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that Goa Health Minister Vishwajit Rane had lashed out at GMCH Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr. Rudresh Kuttikar for allegedly misbehaving with patients during his surprise visit to the premier facility on Saturday and ordered his suspension. The incident took place during the Minister's surprise visit to the hospital.

NEET UG 2025- MP HC Stays Result Declaration for Complainant Candidates citing power outage

Modifying its earlier order, the Madhya Pradesh High Court has recently clarified that the stay imposed on the declaration of NEET results for candidates affected by the power outage will be limited to only those who filed petitions before the Court.

Previously, the HC bench had stayed the declaration of National Eligibility-Entrance Test (NEET) results for 11 test centres in Indore, which were affected due to power outage.

However, yesterday, the Court modified its order and gave liberty to the National Testing Agency (NTA) to declare the results of all other candidates except the petitioners.

"Looking to the facts & submission as made by the rival parties as well as the order dated 16-05-2025, the interim order dated 15-05-2025 is modified as follows: Respondent No.1 is free to declare the result of all the candidates who have appeared in NEET-UG exam held on 04- 05-2025 except the candidates who have filed writ petitions before this Court till further orders," ordered the HC bench comprising Justice Pavan Kumar Dwivedi.

AIIMS Delhi to undergo overhaul, expand services across NCR

In a move set to transform India’s premier healthcare institution, the NITI Aayog is likely to recommend a comprehensive revamp of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi, including a strategic expansion of its clinical services across the National Capital Region (NCR).

According to Economic Times, the move is aimed at reducing the load on existing infrastructure and freeing doctors for medical research, said a senior government official.

This restructuring is expected to significantly reduce long waiting times and improve patient flow for non-critical treatments. Currently, AIIMS Delhi’s outpatient department (OPD) manages an overwhelming 7,200 patients per day, while its emergency section treats approximately 400–500 cases daily, putting immense strain on resources and staff.

According to the news reports, a committee headed by NITI Aayog member Dr. VK Paul is currently reviewing the existing systems at AIIMS and is expected to soon draft a comprehensive reform plan. The blueprint will outline specific timelines and actionable steps to elevate the institute’s healthcare services to international standards.
