Kerala Medical Council fines doctor Rs 1 lakh, suspends for 3 months for misrepresenting qualifications
Taking strict action against a doctor, the Kerala State Medical Council (Council of Modern Medicine) has decided to remove his name from the State Medical Register for three months for practising with unrecognised and unregistered qualifications.
Apart from removing the name, the Council has also imposed a penalty of Rs 1 lakh on the doctor. It was noted that the doctor had allegedly ignored prior warnings and repeated directives of the council, The Hindu has reported.
The Council received a complaint in 2022 stating that the concerned doctor, a registered medical practitioner in Thiruvananthapuram, was displaying unrecognised and unregistered additional qualifications while in clinical practice.
Consequently, the Ethics Committee of the Modern Medicine Council summoned the doctor on June 14, 2022, for a personal hearing. During the hearing, the doctor mentioned that even though he appeared for the DNB (Medicine) examination after training from 2007 to 2010, the result was not declared, The Hindu has reported.

Maharashtra Medical Teachers criticize NMC's new Faculty norms
Objecting to the inclusion of MSc/PhD holders and private practitioners from non-teaching hospitals as faculty in medical colleges, the medical teachers in Maharashtra recently wrote to the Chairman of the National Medical Commission (NMC).
These doctors under the Maharashtra State Medical Teachers Association have opposed the recent amendment dated 02.07.2025, introduced by NMC, which allowed the inclusion of non-medical teachers (MSc/PhD holders) up to 30% of faculty posts in the pre-clinical and para-clinical departments, including Anatomy, Physiology, Microbiology, and Pharmacology.
Further, the association also opposed the "lateral entry of non-teaching practitioners from private/public health, medical officers, from public health", adding that it would "undermine the experience of a teacher who has been working in medical colleges since years."

CCMP Row: Over 9000 Maha Homoeopathic doctors end strike after Govt assures review
Demanding the reinstatement of the withdrawn Maharashtra Medical Council (MMC) order allowing registration of Certificate Course in Modern Pharmacology (CCMP)-trained homeopathic practitioners, homeopathic doctors across the state launched a three-day hunger strike at Azad Maidan from July 16 to 18. But the strike has now been temporarily called off after the state government sought four days to review their demands.
The strike led by Dr Bahubali Shah, Administrator of the Maharashtra Council of Homoeopathy, witnessed participation from over 500 homeopathic doctors on Tuesday. They were seen holding placards and chanting slogans against the Indian Medical Association (IMA) and the state government, blaming their opposition for the MMC’s withdrawal of the notification.
They alleged that their rights had been taken away since they do not hold an MBBS degree, but instead have the necessary education to treat the patients. Feeling sidelined, the protesting doctors demanded equal rights in medical practice. HT reported that more than 60 homeopathy colleges across the state supported the strike by sending students to join the agitation.
However, over 9,000 CCMP-certified homeopathic doctors in Maharashtra called off the hunger strike after receiving an assurance from the state government. The government asked them to give four days to review their demands and respond accordingly.

AIIMS, PGI Chandigarh faculty get support from Doctors' associations for Rotatory Headship
Amid the ongoing demand for the implementation of Rotatory Headship- a democratic and transparent leadership system, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) and the Delhi Medical Association (DMA) have extended their support to the Faculty Associations of AIIMS, Delhi, and PGIMER, Chandigarh.
In a letter to Union Health Minister J P Nadda, the IMA said it has received an email from FAIMS and FA-PGIMER on the issue and emphasised that this reform is a long-standing recommendation of various internal committees and has already been adopted successfully by leading national institutions such as the Indian Institutes of Technology, Indian Institutes of Management, JIPMER, NIMHANS, BHU and CMC Vellore, among others.
According to the PTI news agency, the letter said, "IMA extends its full support for the joint representation made by the Faculty Association of AIIMS, New Delhi and the Faculty Association of PGIMER, Chandigarh, requesting the implementation of Rotatory Headship in their respective institutions, as directed by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in July 2023".
