The Telangana Human Rights Commission (THRC) recently directed the State Government to pay Rs 1.25 lakh compensation to each of the sixteen individuals who were administered expired hepatitis B vaccines at Gandhi Hospital back in 2014.

After perusing the report submitted by the hospital, the State Human Rights Commission held the hospital and its staff responsible for medical negligence. THRC called the incident "a grave medical lapse with potentially long-term health consequences" and underlined that medical institutions must "exercise highest degree of caution while dealing with drug administration."

THRC conducted a prolonged inquiry into the matter and on 4 July 2025, the Commission found that the hospital was responsible for the incident and issued several recommendations, including financial compensation.

The Commission also directed the Chief Secretary to the Government to take appropriate action against all officials responsible, including administrative and supervisory authorities, particularly the Superintendent, Gandhi Hospital, Secunderabad."

In a major relief for the postgraduate medical aspirants seeking admissions in Maharashtra, the Fee Regulating Authority (FRA) in the State has reduced the MD MS fees at Vedantaa Institute of Medical Sciences (VIMS), Palghar, by 32%.

The decision in this regard was taken by the FRA in its meetings held recently this week. FRA has fixed the MBBS fees for 11 out of 24 private medical colleges in Maharashtra and PG (MD/MS) medical fees for five of these colleges.

Ministry of Ayush is implementing the Centrally Sponsored Scheme of National Ayush Mission (NAM) through State/UT Governments and supporting their efforts for promotion and overall development of Ayush, including Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy in the country.

Under NAM, grant-in-aid is being provided to the State /UT Governments against their proposals received through State Annual Action Plans (SAAPs) as per the provisions of NAM guidelines. The NAM inter-alia makes provision for following activities:

(i) Operationalization of Ayush Health & Wellness Centres (AHWCs) now renamed as Ayushman Arogya Mandir (Ayush).

(ii) Co-location of Ayush facilities at Primary Health Centres (PHCs), Community Health Centres (CHCs) and District Hospitals (DHs)

(iii) Upgradation of existing standalone Government Ayush Hospitals

For Financial Year 2025-26, more than 200 Day Care Cancer Centres (DCCCs) have been approved for establishment across the country. A list of approved DCCCs for Financial Year 2025-26 is attached as Annexure.

The DCCCs will be established in District hospitals as per availability of space and logistics; however, based on the feasibility and as per State proposals, DCCCs can be established in other Government health facilities also. Unit cost for establishment of DCCCs may be up to Rs. 1.49 Crores as per requirement and gaps at that facility.

Fund requirement is fulfilled by the State Resource Envelope (RE) of National Health Mission (NHM) and proportion of States/UTs will be as per norms of NHM.

The Ministry of Health & Family Welfare conducted a national gap analysis using Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) cancer registry data and planned for establishment of Day Care Cancer Centres (DCCCs) in consultation with States, as per announcement in the Union Budget 2025-26.
