JIPMER to launch India's first integrated MBBS-BAMS course

The Union Government is set to integrate allopathic and Ayurvedic medicine under one academic roof with plans to launch India's first MBBS-BAMS course at the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) in Puducherry. Announcing the plan recently, Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare and AYUSH (Independent Charge), Prataprao Jadhav, said that the course is at the conceptual stage, with a new syllabus in development.

Back in 2022, the National Medical Commission (NMC) made it mandatory for all medical colleges to have a "Department of Integrative Medicine Research".

Relief to MBBS Graduates in Maha: Bond Service on hold for PG Aspirants

Bringing relief to MBBS graduates, the Maharashtra Government has put the one-year government bond service requirement for postgraduate medical admissions on hold.

As per the previous Government Order dating back to 2017, MBBS graduates are required to complete their bond service before joining postgraduate medical courses.

However, issuing an order on Thursday, the State Medical Education Department stayed the requirement. The order stated, "The 2017 state government resolution requiring MBBS graduates to complete their bond service before joining PG courses had been put on hold till further orders."

In the Government Resolutions (GR) issued in October 2017, the State mentioned that the medical graduates from the GMCs would not be considered eligible for MD/MS and PG Diploma courses before completing their bond-service requirement at the remote healthcare facilities and other establishments.

PG Medical Admissions Row: HC Reinforces SC order for GMCH-32

Dimissing the pleas challenging the modalities for postgraduate (PG) medical admissions in Chandigarh, the Punjab and Haryana High Court recently reinforced the Supreme Court's earlier ruling that held domicile-based reservations for PG medical courses unconstitutional.

Further, the bench of Chief Justice Sheel Nagu and Justice Sumeet Goel directed the Chandigarh administration to carry out the PG medical admissions at GMCH-32 as per the Apex Court's directions issued in the case of Dr. Tanvi vs Shrey Goel and the top court's order issued on March 24.

Murshidabad Medical College sacks NMC Assessor amid Bribery Scandal

Following the arrest of a senior doctor- an assessor with the National Medical Commission (NMC) in a bribery case, the Murshidabad Medical College Hospital (MMCH) authorities issued a notice to him on Monday, removing him from the position of HOD Anatomy Department and dissolving all committees in which he held membership.

While serving as the Head of the Anatomy Department at Murshidabad Medical College, Dr. Tapan Kumar was appointed to several committees, including the advisory and convocation committees. However, following his arrest, the college authorities decided to remove him from his position as Head of the Anatomy Department and dissolve all committees in which he was involved.
