Dr Kulkarni served as Professor and Head, Division of Critical Care Medicine at Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai, under the Homi Bhabha National Institute. He was known for his dedicated service to critically ill cancer patients and for strengthening critical care practices at the national level.
He also served as the Editor-in-Chief of the Indian Journal of Critical Care Medicine, contributing significantly to medical education and research. Over the years, Dr Kulkarni held several important leadership roles, including Past President of the Asia Pacific Association of Critical Care Medicine, the Indian Society of Critical Care Medicine, and the Association of SAARC Critical Care Societies. He was also the Chancellor of the Indian College of Critical Care Medicine.
Respected for his clinical expertise and commitment to teaching, Dr Kulkarni mentored generations of intensivists and played a key role in improving standards of critical care across India and the Asia Pacific region.
His passing is a great loss to the medical fraternity. The legacy he leaves behind will continue to inspire students, colleagues, and healthcare professionals for years to come.
