Delhi: Homeless man dies after car runs over him, Woman Doctor arrested
New Delhi: A 28-year old woman doctor from government hospital was arrested recently by the Delhi police for allegedly running over an unidentified man on the road. The homeless man was later declared dead after the accident.
The deceased has been identified as a 35-year old homeless man, who was crossing the road at central Delhi’s Paharganj. The doctor hit him and he was dragged to several meters after his cloth got caught in the wheels of her vehicle. The accident took place near the SDM office, located at DBG Road.
After the said incident, people gathered at the spot after which Police Control Room (PCR) was called. The police reached the incident spot and interrogated the matter from the woman doctor.
The victim was immediately taken to the local hospital where the doctors declared him brought dead. The body was later shifted to the local mortuary.
A complaint was filed by a man, who is also a witness and runs a scrap shop in the locality. He registered the complaint in the police regarding the incident. He claimed that the doctor was driving in high speed in a very rash way.
The case against the doctor was registered under IPC sections 279 (rash driving or riding on a public way) and 304-(A) (causing death by negligence) at Paharganj police station.
On the basis of the complaint registered, the doctor was arrested. She was later granted bail.
According to the information provided by the police to the Indian Express, the woman doctor told the police officials was near a roundabout when the victim suddenly jumped in front of her vehicle. However, an eyewitness told police that she was driving rashly.
The Medical Dialogues has earlier reported that anaesthetist attached to the Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital has been arrested for running over a 28-year-old pedestrian while speed-driving his car, allegedly in an inebriated state. The man reportedly died while undergoing treatment.
