Cuticapil Stem Hair Serum as Add-On to Minoxidil Shows Superior Hair Growth in Androgenetic Alopecia : Indian Real World Data

India: An Indian real-world clinical study has demonstrated the efficacy and safety of Cuticapil Stem Hair Serum. When used alongside standard care minoxidil, Cuticapil Stem Hair Serum showed superior outcomes in promoting hair growth, reducing hair shedding, improving hair density and appearance; and effectively managing hair loss in patients with mild to moderate Androgenetic Alopecia (AGA) and Female Pattern Hair Loss (FPHL).
The study was published in the May Issue of the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology.
Hair loss (alopecia) affects individuals across ages and genders, impacting physical and mental well-being. Androgenetic alopecia (AGA) is the most common form affecting both males and females, with postmenopausal women more prone to female pattern hair loss (FPHL) due to adrenal overdrive. Current treatments like minoxidil oral finasteride, and hair transplantation demonstrate varying degrees of efficacy and come with side effects such as scalp irritation and hormonal changes, leaving a therapeutic gap. Cuticapil Stem Hair Serum is formulated with natural active ingredients such as Caffeine Herbasome, Procapil, Capilia Longa, Cressatine, and Ronacare Biotin Plus, which collectively help promote hair growth and reduce hair fall.
A multicenter, prospective, observational study was conducted to evaluate the real-world efficacy and safety of Cuticapil Stem Hair Serum as an add-on strategy to Minoxidil, the standard of care (SoC) in patients with mild to moderate Androgenetic Alopecia (AGA) and Female Pattern Hair Loss (FPHL).
A total of 60 patients with patterned hair loss, having a mean age of 34.18 ± 11.19 years, were enrolled. Thirty patients (23 females, 7 males) received Cuticapil Stem Hair Serum alongside standard care topical minoxidil lotion, while the other 30 (19 females, 11 males) received only standard care topical minoxidil lotion. These groups were compared using the Mann–Whitney and Wilcoxon signed-rank tests. Most males (76.92%) had Grade III AGA, and most females (84.75%) had Grade II FPHL.
The results revealed findings which include:
- Hair Shedding Count (Only Females): Hair shedding was evaluated at baseline and after 12 weeks. The Cuticapil Stem Hair Serum plus standard care topical minoxidil lotion group showed a significant reduction in hair shedding (from 48.10 ± 25.61 to 22.68 ± 17.46 hairs), compared to the standard care group alone (from 44.05 ± 24.23 to 29.30 ± 22.29 hairs). (mean change: −25.42 hairs, p<0.0001) (Fig.1)
- Hair Pull Test: Cuticapil Stem Hair Serum + SoC group showed a significantly lower mean rank (26.97) compared to the standard care group (34.03). This indicates greater improvement and superior efficacy of the combination of Cuticapil and SoC topical minoxidil lotion in reducing hair shedding. (p value – 0.0196)
- Trichoscopic Photographic Impression: Cuticapil Stem Hair Serum + SoC group showed a significantly higher mean rank (36.3) compared to the standard care group (24.7). This indicates that the addition of Cuticapil Stem Hair Serum resulted in greater improvement in hair appearance and overall treatment efficacy, as observed through photographic evaluation. (p value – 0.005) (Fig.2)

- Blinded Person Photographic Impression: The Cuticapil Stem Hair Serum + SoC group had a significantly higher mean rank (36.87) than the standard care group (24.13). This indicates greater improvement in hair health and appearance with the addition of Cuticapil. (p value – 0.0019)
- Global Photographic Assessment: The Cuticapil Stem Hair Serum + SoC group showed a significantly higher mean rank (36.13) than the standard care group (24.87). This indicates that the addition of Cuticapil led to more noticeable improvements in hair density and overall appearance. (p value – 0.0057)
- Patient Global Assessment: The Cuticapil Stem Hair Serum + SoC group had a significantly higher mean rank (37.80) than the standard care group (23.20). This highlights the superior efficacy of Cuticapil + SoC in improving overall hair health, as evaluated by physicians. (p value < 0.001)
- Positive Hair Pull Test: The Cuticapil + SoC group showed a higher mean rank (34.00) than the standard care group (27.00). This suggests that Cuticapil + SoC significantly improved hair strength and reduced hair shedding. (p value – 0.0206)
- Safety Assessment: Cuticapil Stem Hair Serum combined with SoC was well tolerated, with no adverse event reported, and demonstrated a safe treatment option for long-term use in managing androgenetic alopecia.
These findings suggest that Cuticapil Stem Hair Serum as an add-on to standard care may serve as a beneficial and safe addition to existing treatment approaches for AGA and FPHL, highlighting its potential role in clinical practice.
