Can you get diabetes if you're a non-vegetarian? - Dr Tilak N - Video
Overview
Diabetes is a chronic condition characterized by elevated blood sugar levels due to insufficient insulin production or the body's inability to use insulin effectively. This health concern necessitates attention because uncontrolled high blood sugar can lead to severe complications affecting various organs and systems in the body, including the heart, kidneys, eyes, and nerves.
Managing diabetes through lifestyle changes, medication, and regular monitoring is crucial to prevent complications and maintain overall health.
Contrary to the misconception that being a non-vegetarian prevents diabetes, this belief is untrue. Diabetes does not discriminate based on dietary preferences or food choices. Both vegetarians and non-vegetarians can develop diabetes. Instead, the risk factors for diabetes include genetic predisposition, sedentary lifestyle, obesity, poor dietary habits (including excessive sugar intake), and other health conditions.
Bursting some common myths related to diabetes, Dr. Tilak N., Consultant Physician and Diabetologist from Shanbhag Hospital, Bangalore, Karnataka, explains: Can you get diabetes if you're a non-vegetarian?
