Debunking Myths: The Truth about Fasting and Diabetes Cure - Dr Apoorva Suran - Video
Overview
The HbA1c test, also called the glycated hemoglobin test, is a pivotal tool in managing diabetes, offering a comprehensive view of average blood sugar levels over 2-3 months. Its significance lies in providing insights into long-term blood sugar control. Maintaining an optimal HbA1c level is vital as it correlates with a reduced risk of diabetes-related complications like nerve damage, kidney issues, and heart diseases.
Dispelling a common myth, fasting does not cure diabetes. While fasting might momentarily affect blood sugar levels, it doesn’t tackle the root causes of diabetes, like insulin resistance or inadequate insulin production. Relying solely on fasting is risky for individuals with diabetes and can lead to complications such as hypoglycemia or hyperglycemia. Effective diabetes management necessitates a holistic approach, including a balanced diet, regular exercise, prescribed medications, and medical supervision.
In the video, Dr. Apoorva Suran, consultant endocrinologist from Choithram Hospital, Indore, Madhya Pradesh, emphasizes the importance of the HbA1c test in managing diabetes. She clarifies the common misconception that fasting can cure diabetes.
