Dispelling Misconceptions About Borderline Diabetes - Dr Kavya Somesh
Overview
Diabetes is a health condition characterized by elevated blood sugar levels. We need to worry about it due to potential complications like heart disease and kidney issues. The HbA1c test, measuring average blood sugar levels over months, is crucial in diabetes management. Maintaining HbA1c below 7% indicates well-controlled blood sugar, reducing the risk of complications. Regular testing aids in making informed treatment decisions, promoting effective diabetes management, and preventing potential long-term issues.
Contrary to the popular myth that having borderline diabetes means no cause for concern, it's essential to recognize the significance of this warning sign. Borderline diabetes, also known as prediabetes, indicates elevated blood sugar levels, increasing the risk of developing type 2 diabetes. While not everyone progresses to diabetes, proactive measures like lifestyle changes, dietary modifications, and regular exercise are crucial. Ignoring prediabetes heightens the risk of developing diabetes, making it imperative to address and manage this early stage for a healthier future and reduced likelihood of progressing to full-blown diabetes.
In this video, Dr Kavya Somesh, a General physician from Chennai, Tamil Nadu, discusses Diabetes and the complications related to it while dispelling the myth that people with borderline diabetes don’t need to worry about the disease.
