The Prediabetes Show Episode 3 - Tackling Patient Conversations around Prediabetes and Metformin - Video
Overview
As we observe Prediabetes Month presenting episode 3rd of the prediabetes show we have Dr Nandini Rastogi, Diabetologist, Kanpur, India and Dr Aloke Kumar Gupta, Diabetologist from Diabetes Education and Research Center, Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh they will discuss the topic: Tackling Patient Conversations Around Prediabetes & Metformin.
For many individuals with prediabetes, the idea of starting medication like metformin feels unnecessary, even alarming. Despite clear clinical criteria that justify pharmacological intervention, patient denial and pill aversion remain major roadblocks.
For clinicians, this presents a daily dilemma. Time-pressed consultations and difficult conversations can often lead to clinical inertia- depriving patients of timely care that could delay or prevent type 2 diabetes altogether.
They will answer the following questions:
1) Practical barriers to initiating pharmacological treatment in prediabetes
2) Why the hesitation in treating prediabetes?
3) How can doctors encourage metformin use without fear or resistance?
4) Common patient barriers to prediabetes treatment
5) Red flags for early metformin initiation
6) Metformin’s role in prediabetes management
