Lucknow: A doctor reportedly committed suicide in Lucknow’s Gomti Nagar after his wife did not allow him to eat non-vegetarian food.
According to police sources, the doctor, identified as Umashankar, committed suicide by hanging himself in his home on Thursday night.
According to India.com, D Uma Shanker Gupta, a skin specialist, on Wednesday bought non-veg food for himself and his six-year daughter , who was asleep but was woken up by him after which both ate the food together.
When his wife Deepti Agarwal came to know about this, she got angry and an argument broke out between the couple over feeding non-veg food to their daughter. Following the heated exchange, Gupta locked himself in a room around 11.30 PM.
Half-an-hour later when Deepti knocked on the door of Gupta’s room, in a bid to apologize, he did not respond. She also called her on his phone but, he did not answer. Amar Ujala, reports that when the door was then slammed open, the doctor was found hanging.
Deepti soon informed the police about the suicide.
At around 12 in the night, inspector RK Agarwal informed the police control room and informed about the suicide. No suicide note is found in the room. Deepti told the police that she had an argument with him on having non-vegetarian food with the daughter. When speaking to the family of deceased they said that Umashankar was fond of non-veg, while Dipti did not like this food.
The police have sent the body for the postmortem and began an investigation into the matter.
