Nasal cleaning kit with Benzalkonium chloride reduces allergy symptoms
A new study by Arman Kalamkarian and team showed that by using an unique nasal cleansing kit twice a day, 84% of respondents reported a significant decrease in severe allergy symptoms. The findings of this study were published in the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology.
According to the World Health Organization, 10% to 30% of people worldwide have allergic rhinitis and 40% of people are sensitive to airborne particles. Yet, a standard procedure for everyday nose hygiene has not yet been implemented. Consequently, the purpose of this study was to determine whether an antiseptic nasal cleansing kit may assist individuals with persistent allergy symptoms feel better.
20 patients consented to utilize a cutting-edge nasal cleansing kit twice every day for two weeks after giving their informed permission. An applicator and gel containing benzalkonium chloride are included in the Nasoclenz package. Nasal cultures were taken (from 9 patients) before and during the test period, and a modified RCAT-survey was conducted.
The key findings of this study were:
1. At the beginning, 95%(19/20) of the patients complained of allergies and respiratory issues.
2. 15/20 people, or 75%, said they were exposed to allergies at work or in daily life. In 65% and 60% of cases, nasal and allergic symptoms that interfered with home and work life, respectively, were observed.
3. Following two weeks of daily nasal cleansing, 84% of those with severe symptoms reported a noticeable decrease, and 58% said their allergy symptoms had improved to the point that they were no longer interfering with their everyday lives at home and at work.
4. In 71% of symptomatic individuals, frequent coughing and/or shortness of breath is reduced.
5. 44% of nasal cultures had mold contamination prior to the investigation.
6. Mold was removed by intranasal cleaning in 50% of individuals.
