An Instagram post claims that Coriander and Fennel Seeds Cure Thyroid (disorders) in 21 days. The claim is FALSE.

Claim

In an Instagram post, it is claimed that Coriander and Fennel Seeds Cures Thyroid in 21 days. In the reel by drirfan94, "If you're suffering from thyroid issues, just try this home remedy for 21 days and then get your reports done — , your thyroid will return to normal. And the best part? It’s absolutely free. I’m sharing a home-based solution that can potentially normalize your thyroid levels in just 21 days — something for which doctors often prescribe lifelong allopathic medications.

Here’s what you need to do. Take 2 teaspoons of whole coriander seeds and soak them in one glass of water in the evening. Cover it and leave it overnight. In the morning, boil the same water well with the soaked coriander. Once boiled, add 1 teaspoon of fennel seeds (saunf) to the water. Cover it again, let it cool, and after your breakfast (about 30 minutes later), strain and drink the water. Follow this for 21 days regularly.

Share this video with anyone suffering from thyroid problems — , they’ll see improvement within 21 days. This is a free remedy with zero side effects and may save you from years of allopathic medications."

The claim can be accessed here.

Fact Check

The claim is FALSE. Although coriander and fennel seeds do carry some health benefits, there is no scientific evidence or clinical consensus to suggest that they can cure thyroid disorders certainly not within 21 days. Furthermore, the claim is vague, as it does not specify whether it refers to hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism.

The two most common functional thyroid disorders are hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism.

What is Hypothyroidism?

Hypothyroidism occurs when the thyroid gland fails to produce enough thyroid hormones, leading to a slowdown of the body’s metabolic functions. This underactivity can cause fatigue, weight gain, cold intolerance, and low mood or depression. The most common causes include autoimmune disorders such as Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, thyroid surgery, or prior radiation therapy. Because thyroid hormones influence nearly every organ system, untreated hypothyroidism can have widespread effects. Timely diagnosis and treatment are crucial to prevent long-term complications.

What is Hyperthyroidism?

Hyperthyroidism is a condition in which the thyroid gland becomes overactive, producing excessive amounts of thyroid hormones. This speeds up metabolism and can result in weight loss, rapid heartbeat, anxiety, irritability, and heat intolerance. Also called thyrotoxicosis, it is most often linked to autoimmune conditions like Graves’ disease, thyroid inflammation (thyroiditis), or overactive nodules within the gland (toxic nodular goiter). Proper evaluation and management are essential to control symptoms and avoid serious health consequences.

Can Hypothyroidism and Hyperthyroidism Be Cured?

Neither hypothyroidism nor hyperthyroidism is typically curable, but both can be effectively managed with appropriate treatment.

  • Hypothyroidism is treated with a daily dose of synthetic thyroxine (T4), which replaces the missing hormone and restores balance, allowing normal body function.
  • Hyperthyroidism treatment varies depending on cause and may involve antithyroid medications, radioactive iodine therapy, or surgery to reduce excess hormone production.

What Are the Health Benefits of Coriander and Fennel Seeds?

Coriander has long been prized in both cooking and traditional healing practices. Different parts of the plant—its leaves, seeds, roots, and fruits—are used for medicinal purposes. Historically, coriander seeds have been employed to help reduce pain and eases inflammation.

They are also widely recognized for their digestive benefits, often used to relieve bloating, nausea, diarrhea, and indigestion. These effects are attributed to coriander’s ability to stimulate bile and digestive enzyme secretion from the liver, thereby improving digestion and promoting smoother gut motility.

Fennel seeds popularly known as Saunf in Hindi, belongs to the Apiaceae family and is notable for its seeds, which contain about 50% fiber. This herb demonstrates a wide range of pharmacological effects, including anti-allergic, analgesic, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antibacterial, antistress, and cytotoxic activities.

Can Coriander and Fennel Seeds Cure Thyroid in 21 days?

There is no scientific evidence or medical consensus that coriander and fennel seeds can cure thyroid disorders, especially not within 21 days. Thyroid conditions are chronic medical issues that typically require long-term management.

Coriander, a staple in kitchens worldwide, is gaining recognition for its potential health benefits. Research by Muhammad Jawad Iqbal and colleagues highlights its anti-inflammatory properties and its role in regulating blood sugar, lowering cholesterol, and improving digestion.

Additionally, a report in Nutrition Today suggests that coriander may act as a natural antibiotic, ease respiratory problems and pain, and even stimulate appetite.

Fennel seeds offer multiple health benefits. According to a review in Nuts and Seeds in Health and Disease Prevention, they may aid digestion, enhance metabolism for weight control, help in relieving sore throats, and relieve respiratory congestion.

It can be concluded that the claim is False since there is neither scientific evidence nor medical consensus to substantiate it.

Dr. Jayaditya Ghosh, Consultant Endocrinologist, Yashoda Hospitals, Hyderabad told Medical Dialogues, "Thyroid Disorders can be hypothyroidism (deficiency of thyroid hormones)or hyperthyroidism (Excess of thyroid hormones). There is no human study to support the fact that coriander and fennel seeds can cure throid problems in 21 days. Coriander and Fennel seeds have some anti-inflammatory properties but they are not substitute of thyroid medication. So neither coriander and fennel seeds can cure thyroid problems."

To this Dr. Arun Mukka, Sr. Consultant Endocrinologist, Yashoda Hospitals, Hyderabad added, "The recent claim like the water infused with the coriander seeds and fennel seeds curing the thyroid disease is unscientific. Traditionally coriander and fennel seeds have been used as a kitchen remedies for common problems like flatulence and indigestion. Coriander seeds are rich in antioxidants because of which they are known to cause benefits in the cardiovascular problems as well as chronic diseases. Fennel seeds have got a high content of fiber because of which they have been used traditionally for indigestion or dyspepsia or to solve the gastric issues like constipation. However, the claim that the fennel seeds as well as the coriander seeds can be used for thyroid diseases is unscientific and is not recommended. Thyroid diseases are complex and there are various types of diseases like hypo and hyperthyroidism which require medications to be given under medical supervision."

Medical Dialogues Final Take

The claim that coriander and fennel seeds can cure thyroid disease in 21 days is false and not supported by scientific evidence or medical consensus. While these seeds may offer health benefits, they have no proven effect on thyroid hormone regulation. Moreover, the claim lacks clarity, as it does not specify whether it pertains to hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, or any other thyroid disorder.

Hence, the claim is FALSE.
