Fact Check: Can Neem Juice and Peepal Juice Cure Kidney Failure in 3 months?

An Instagram post claims that Neem Juice and Peepal Juice Cures Kidney Failure in 3 months. This claim is FALSE.
Claim
In an Instagram post, it is claimed that Neem Juice and Peepal Juice Cures Kidney Failure in 3 months. The post by aaurvedupchar is captioned, "किडनी कितनी भी खराब हो होगी बिल्कुल ठीक" and in the reel it is said, "Kidney failure—both kidneys fail together. Allopathic doctors raise their hands. They say either go for a kidney transplant or wait to die. Now, the mysterious herbs are such a miraculous cure for this, which I have used on thousands of patients and seen the results. Juice of peepal leaves, juice of neem leaves—give half a cup or a quarter cup in the morning and evening to any kidney patient. In three months, the person starts running again just like before the illness. Now tell me, where is peepal not found? And tell me, where is neem not found? Now such a big miracle happens with the juice of peepal and neem leaves. So, there are not one or two, but lakhs of such miracles in Ayurveda. One just needs to understand it."
The claim can be accessed here.
Fact Check
The claim is FALSE. Peepal juice and neem juice may offer certain health benefits but do not cure kidney failure in three months. Kidney failure is a chronic condition that cannot be cured and only managed.
What is Kidney Failure?
Kidney failure also known as End-stage kidney disease (ESKD) arises when the kidneys lose around 85–90% of their function and can no longer adequately filter waste or support vital body functions. At this stage, the kidneys fail to eliminate toxins and excess fluids, regulate blood pressure, stimulate red blood cell production, or maintain bone health. As these functions decline, symptoms like swelling, fatigue, and nausea may worsen.
Can Kidney Failure Be Cured?
While kidney failure has no cure, it can be managed with treatments such as dialysis or kidney transplantation. Dialysis substitutes the kidneys’ filtering role, whereas a transplant offers a more lasting solution by replacing the damaged organ. With appropriate care, many individuals with ESKD can live longer, more fulfilling lives.
What are the Health Benefits Of Peepal Juice and Neem Juice?
Peepal juice can be used for managing gastrointestinal issues, heart conditions, constipation, mumps, boils, gynecological disorders, fever, joint pain, respiratory ailments, skin diseases, dental and ear problems. It exhibits multiple pharmacological properties including analgesic, antioxidant, antimicrobial, anticonvulsant, anti-amnesic, wound-healing, anti-acetylcholinesterase, and proteolytic activities, contributing to its healing and therapeutic potential.
Neem juice offers a wide range of health benefits due to its rich array of bioactive compounds with proven medicinal properties. Studies have shown that components of neem possess antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral, and anthelmintic activities, making neem juice may be effective in supporting immune function and protecting against infections. Its anti-diabetic properties may help regulate blood sugar levels by improving insulin sensitivity and reducing glucose absorption.
Can Neem Juice and Peepal Juice Cure Kidney Failure in 3 months?
The claim that neem juice and peepal juice can cure kidney failure in three months is false and unsupported by science. Chronic kidney failure is a serious condition that requires specialized medical treatment.
Neem is believed to offer several health benefits. As per an article published in the Journal of Functional Foods, found that neem may work as a natural insect repellent, help reduce inflammation, and potentially assist in managing diabetes.
Similarly, an article by Mohammad A. Alzohairy et. al. highlighted that neem and its active compounds contribute to neutralizing free radicals and may help prevent the development of various diseases.
Peepal has been associated with various health benefits. A study by Rutuja Sonawane et. al. highlighted its pharmacological properties, including antioxidant, antimicrobial, and wound-healing effects.
Another article published in the Indian Journal of Applied Research reported that phytochemical analysis of peepal revealed the presence of tannins, saponins, flavonoids, steroids, terpenoids, and cardiac glycosides which may provide health benefits.
While neem and peepal may offer general health benefits, they do not repair or restore failed kidney function.
Responding to the claim Dr Tanima Das Bhattacharya, Consultant Nephrologist, Narayana Super Specialty Howrah said, "The answer is no. There are no large-scale human trials supporting this claim. While there are anecdotal reports, these have been conducted on very small populations. Acute interstitial nephritis caused by herbal medicines is a known issue, and if left untreated, it can progress to chronic kidney disease.
Neem juice has traditionally been used for its antiseptic, antibacterial, and antimalarial properties. It is also used to reduce blood sugar levels. However, when consumed in large amounts, neem juice can cause sterility due to its effects on sperm. In patients with kidney failure, who may already have several electrolyte imbalances, taking neem juice in large amounts over a prolonged period can lead to dyselectrolytemia, which refers to changes in potassium, phosphorus, and calcium levels, potentially worsening kidney function. Similarly, people juice has been used for indigestion and as a purgative, but it contains several components that can have harmful effects on the kidneys. In patients already on other medications, there can be drug interactions if these juices are consumed without informing the doctor."
Dr Mohit Khirbat, Consultant Nephrologist, CK Birla Hospital further explained, "No scientific study states that peepal juice or neem juice has the capacity to cure three-month-old kidney failure. Kidney failure is a critical clinical situation and almost always demands physician-ordered therapies like dialysis or kidney transplant. Although traditional medications might offer supportive care in maintaining general wellness, the expectation solely from natural therapies might deter definitive therapy, worsening the health state. Under no circumstances use their advice against your nephrologist."
Medical Dialogues Final Take
The claim that neem juice and peepal juice can cure kidney failure in three months is false. No scientific evidence or medical consensus supports this assertion. Chronic kidney failure is a serious medical condition that cannot be cured.
