FIR under 304A against three Senior doctors of SCB Medical College for negligence

Cuttack: Police have registered an FIR against three senior doctors of government-run SCB Medical College and Hospital for alleged negligence in the treatment of a teenager. The FIR was registered after the family of a patient alleged that their ward died awaiting a kidney transplant adding that unnecessary delay was caused by the hospital in carrying out the said transplant.

The case concerns a teenage patient who had come the hospital with complaints of kidney ailment While the nephrology professors (medicines) suggested kidney transplantation, the urology professor (surgery) recommended surgery. According to the advice of the three senior professors, the family of Aditya arranged a suitable donor for the transplantation.

It is reported that following the legal formalities, the patient's family moved an application in the Orissa High Court after finding a suitable kidney donor. On January 5, the court directed the DMET authorities to look into the matter. After examining the case the DMET issued a no objection certificate (NOC) to the SCB superintendent for the kidney transplant surgery reports OdishaTV

The boy was in the wait list of the transplant, however, he died before the transplant could be conducted.

Post the death of the patient, the family approached the local police alleging negligence and unnecessary delay by the doctors of SCB Medical College and Hospital including Nephrology Head of Department (HOD) Prof Chittaranjan Kar

"A case under section 304-A (causing death due to negligence) and 34 (criminal act with common intention) of IPC has been registered against nephrology professors Chittaranjan Kar, Sashibhusan Rout and urology professor Datteswar Hota," Inspector of Mangalabag police station Arun Kumar Swain said.
