Cetrimide is a an Antiseptic agent belonging to pharmacology class of Quaternary ammonium

Cetrimide can be used in the treatment of Seborrheic Dermatitis and Scalp psoriasis, Wound cleansing and Minor burns

The common side effects associated with Cetrimide include Burns on skin and mucous membranes (w/ white eschar), pain.

Cetrimide is available in the form of Cream, Lotion, spray.

Cetrimide belonging to the Quaternary ammonium acts a Antiseptic Agent.

Cetrimide is a quaternary ammonium antiseptic having bactericidal activity against gram positive and some gram negative organisms (at higher concentrations), but is ineffective against bacterial spore. It works well against some viruses and has varying antifungal efficacy.

Cetrimide is available in

Cream, Lotion, Spray: Use an alcohol cloth to clean the lesions before application. For preparation instructions, see the labels provided by the manufacturer. Directly dab the solution onto the lesion in a circular motion to evenly moisten the entire surface, including the edges, without leaking or running excessively. Applying to open or infected sores is prohibited. Use a clean, absorbent wipe to wipe away any excess solution from the skin during application; do not use paper towels or tissues. Apply three more times in the same way, one minute between each application.

  • Cetrimide can be used in the treatment of Seborrheic Dermatitis and Scalp psoriasis, Wound cleansing and Minor burns.

Cetrimide is an antiseptic and disinfectant used topically for wound cleansing and the treatment of some skin disorders. Additionally, it is utilized in the treatment of minor burns as well as the prevention of infection in grazes, diaper rash, cuts, and small wounds.

Cetrimide is approved for use in the following clinical indications

  • Seborrheic Dermatitis and Scalp psoriasis

This medication is used in conjunction with other medications to treat the disorders seborrheic dermatitis and scalp psoriasis, which are characterized by symptoms like persistent dandruff and red, scaly, itchy patches of skin on the scalp.

  • Wound cleansing

This medication is used in conjunction with other medications to treat the disorders seborrheic dermatitis and scalp psoriasis, which are characterized by symptoms like persistent dandruff and red, scaly, itchy patches of skin on the scalp.

  • Minor burns

It helps the burns heal quickly while eradicating microorganisms. Minor burns can be treated with this medication.

Topical/Cutaneous

Antiseptic

Adult: As cetrimide 0.5% or 1% cream, or 1% or 2% lotion: Apply liberally to the affected area(s) as required.

As cetrimide 0.5% spray solution: Spray to the affected area(s) 2-3 times daily.

  • Cream: 0.5% or 1%
  • Lotion: 1% or 2%
  • Spray: 0.5%

Cetrimide may be contraindicated in the following conditions:

Hypersensitivity.

The treating physician must closely monitor the patient and keep pharmacovigilance as follows

Pregnancy

Pregnant women should only take this medication if absolutely required. Before using this medication, examine all the risks and advantages with the doctor.

General warnings

External use

This medicine is only recommended for external use. Avoid contact with the mouth and eyes.

Skin irritation

This medicine may cause skin irritation in some patients. Replacement with a suitable alternative may be required based on the clinical condition of the patient.

Alcohol Warning

There is no sufficient scientific evidence traceable regarding use and safety of Cetrimide in concurrent use with alcohol.

Breast Feeding Warning

There is no sufficient scientific evidence traceable regarding use and safety of Cetrimide in breast feeding.

Pregnancy Warning

There is no sufficient scientific evidence traceable regarding use and safety of Cetrimide in pregnancy.

Food Warning

There is no sufficient scientific evidence traceable regarding use and safety of Cetrimide in concurrent use with any particular food.

The adverse reactions related to Cetrimide can be categorized as

Common Adverse effects: Burns on skin and mucous membranes (w/ white eschar), pain.

Less Common Adverse effects: Blistering, erythema, focal epidermal, necrosis, and purpura (concentrated soln).

Rare Adverse effects: Irritation of pulmonary membranes, coughing, dyspnea.

Cetrimide is an antiseptic and disinfectant applied topically to clean wounds and cure various skin conditions. Additionally, it is used to treat minor burns and avoid infection in grazes, diaper rash, chapped hands, scrapes, and tiny wounds.
