Epicillin
Allopathy
Prescription Required
Investigational Drug
Epicillin belongs to the pharmacological class of Beta-lactam Antibiotics.
Epicillin is an extended-spectrum, semisynthetic aminopenicillin with antibacterial activity. Epicillin binds to and inactivates penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) located on the inner membrane of the cell wall of bacteria. The inactivation of penicillin-binding proteins interferes with the cross-linkage of peptidoglycan chains necessary for bacterial cell wall strength as well as rigidity. This interrupts bacterial cell wall synthesis hence resulting in the weakening of the cell wall of bacteria, eventually causing cell lysis.
