Pheneticillin belongs to the pharmacological class of Beta-lactam Antibiotics.
Pheneticillin is said to have antibacterial action.
The common side effects involving the use of Pheneticillin are diarrhea, nausea, purpura, urticaria, skin rashes, headache, hyperkalemia, etc.
Pheneticillin is available in the form of Hard Capsules and Powder for oral suspension.
Piperacillin is available in the Netherlands, U.K., and China.
Pheneticillin belongs to the pharmacological class of Beta-lactam Antibiotics.
Pheneticillin binds to and inhibits penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), which are located inside the bacterial cell wall. Pheneticillin inhibits the third and last stage of bacterial cell wall synthesis. Hence, the cell lysis is then mediated by the bacterial cell wall autolytic enzymes such as autolysins.
Pheneticillin can help to relieve symptoms and also for the treatment and maintenance of infections of the mouth, nose, and throat, such as strep throat, lower respiratory diseases, such as pneumonia; infections of the skin as well as soft tissue, such as bacterial infection of the skin or abscesses.
Pheneticillin is available in the form of Hard Capsules and Powder for oral suspension.
Pheneticillin can be used in the following treatment:
- Infections of the mouth, nose, and throat, such as strep throat
- Lower respiratory infections, such as pneumonia
- Infections of the skin and soft tissue, such as a bacterial infection of the skin or abscesses

Pheneticillin is approved for use in the following clinical indications:

Hard Capsule: To be taken as a whole with water
Powder for the oral suspension: Is to be reconstituted with water and taken orally
250 mg and 500 mg hard capsules
125 mg/5 ml, powder for the oral suspension

Avoid high-acid foods like citrus fruits and juices like orange and grapefruit, soda, and chocolates.
Alcohol intake might lead to nausea, vomiting, and headache
Multivitamins and antacids contain minerals, primarily magnesium, calcium, aluminum, iron, or zinc, which bind to the antibiotic and refrain it from working. Spacing them at least for 2 hours after Piperacillin administration is recommended.
The adverse reactions related to Pheneticillin can be categorized as follows:
Uncommon
- Mild stomach cramps
- Skin rash
- Diarrhea
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Itching
- Redness
Rare
- Low white blood cell count
- Severe allergic reactions
- Swelling of the face
- Difficulty breathing
- Joint pain
- Local fluid accumulation in the skin, joints
