Prethacamide is a central and resp stimulant with a brief duration of action. It acts by stimulation of peripheral chemoreceptors and central resp centers. It has pressor effects and may also increase catecholamine release.
Prethacamide is available in the form of Injections.

Prethcamide is a central and resp stimulant with a brief duration of action. It acts by stimulation of peripheral chemoreceptors and central resp centers. It has pressor effects and may also increase catecholamine release.
Prethacamide is approved for use in the following clinical indications
As a respiratory stimulant
Adult: 100 mg tid.
Prethacamide is available in various strengths as
- Injection ( 400 mg/20 ml)
Prethacamide is available in the form of Injections.
Epilepsy or other convulsive disorders, cerebral edema, cerebrovascular accident, head injury, acute severe asthma, physical obstruction of the airway, severe hypertension, ischaemic heart disease, hyperthyroidism, and pheochromocytoma.
Common Adverse effects:
Dyspnoea, resp problems; muscular, GI, CNS, and CV effects.
Concurrent use of anesthetics may cause cardiac arrhythmias. Increased pressor effects when used with sympathomimetics or MAOIs. May mask the residual effects of neuromuscular blockers.
