International Yoga Day 2026: NMC organises special event on 'Yoga for Healthy Ageing'

New Delhi: The National Medical Commission (NMC) has announced the observance of the 12th International Day of Yoga on June 21, 2026, with the theme 'Yoga for Healthy Ageing."
As part of the celebrations, the Commission will organise a special yoga event at its headquarters in Dwarka, New Delhi, beginning at 6:00 AM, and has directed all officers and staff members to participate in the programme.
The programme details are as under:

In a public notice issued by the Policy & Coordination Division, the Commission stated that the Ministry of Ayush is coordinating the nationwide observance of the International Day of Yoga, which has evolved into a globally recognised celebration of India's contribution to holistic health and well-being.
According to the notice, the theme for IDY 2026 is “Yoga for Healthy Ageing”, reflecting the growing importance of yoga in supporting healthy longevity, active lifestyles, and improved quality of life across all age groups.
The NMC mentioned that the main national event will be led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi from Kolkata, West Bengal, on June 21, 2026. Alongside the flagship event, yoga programmes are planned across the country, with participation from ministries, departments, state governments, educational institutions, public sector organisations, and civil society groups.
In view of these celebrations, the Commission has requested all medical colleges and institutions to organise Common Yoga Protocol sessions, conduct suitable yoga-related activities, and encourage maximum participation from students, faculty members, healthcare professionals, and other stakeholders.
