NEET PG counselling to begin soon, NMC relief on Existing Recognised PG seats for admissions, decides on 1870 applications
New Delhi: In a major relief to the NEET PG aspirants, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has allowed all the existing recognised PG Broad Speciality seats available with the medical colleges/institutes to be considered for admission for the academic session of 2023 and the seat matrix will be prepared accordingly.
The Postgraduate Medical Education Board (PGMEB) of NMC has taken this decision as it took note of the fact that the counselling process for PG medical admission on the basis of the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test Postgraduate (NEET-PG) examination 2023 is going to start soon.
Issuing a Public Notice in this regard on June 19, 2023, the PG Board of NMC has also informed that it received altogether 2828 applications from medical institutes across the country seeking recognition or renewal of recognition for the PG medical courses during the year 2022;
Although the board took a call regarding 1870 such applications, the process of taking a decision regarding the rest of the applications is still ongoing. At this outset, considering the upcoming counselling for NEET-PG 2023, NMC has allowed all the existing recognised PG Broad Specialty seats to be considered for admission this year.
"Post Graduate Medical Education Board (PGMEB) has received 2828 applications from Medical colleges/Institutes for recognition/renewal of recognition of PG Medical qualifications during the year 2022. So far, the Board has taken decision on 1870 applications; and decision on the remaining applications is under process. As the Counselling process on the basis of NEET PG-2023 is going to start soon, therefore, the existing recognised/permitted PG Broad Speciality seats available with the medical colleges/institutes will be considered for admission for Academic Session-2023 and Seat Matrix will be prepared accordingly. Colleges may reduce the number of seats in special circumstances," read the notice issued by the President of PGMEB, Dr. Vijay Oza.
Earlier this year, Medical Dialogues had reported that by writing to the Registrar of all the medical universities of India and the Dean and Principal of all the PG medical colleges under NMC, the PGMEB had invited applications for recognition and renewal of recognition of PG medical courses during 2023.
Inviting applications for recognition and renewal of recognition for PG courses, the apex medical commission mentioned, "...all the PG Medical Colleges/ Institutions under NMC where the PG Medical Courses are due for recognition/ renewal of recognition during 2023 are requested to forward their complete application form through their affiliating University, addressed to the Post Graduate Medical Education Board, National Medical Commission directly on the email id pqmeb.recognition@nmc.orchin exclusively for recognition of PG medical courses."
"The application form mentioning the exact date of practical examination for recognition of PG course as per the enclosed format along with documents as per the checklist should be forwarded to the Post Graduate Medical Education Board at least 45 days before the commencement of examination, so that the assessors can be appointed at the time of practical examination. Incomplete applications and applications submitted at the last moment will not be entertained," further mentioned the letter issued by Deputy Secretary of PGMEB, Aujendar Singh.
The commission had also attached the application form that the medical colleges need to fill up for this purpose. Among other details, the colleges were directed to submit the name of the course (MD/MS/DM/MCh/Diploma), number of seats permitted, number of seats already recognized, number of seats due to recognition, Date of LoP/ LoR, and date of practical examination.
