NEET PG dates: NMC issues directive over premature circulation of official communications
New Delhi: The National Medical Commission (NMC) recently stated that official applicability of notices, circulars, guidelines, instructions etc being found in the public domain in the name of the Commission will be officially applicable only when they are formally published on the Commission's website and the official Twitter (now X) handle of Commission.
The move comes in the background of the recent fiasco over the NEET PG 2025 dates where a premature circular was released online causing a frenzy regarding the authenticity of the notice and the NMC was bombarded wth questions on whether the notice was fake or not.
Asking all the concerned to cooperate fully in ensuring that such official channels are used for communication while upholding the NMC standards, the Commission further specified that it would not vouch for the authenticity of any letter/communication circulating in social media that is not on the Commission's website.
NMC Secretary Dr. B Srinivas issued a circular in this regard on 09.12.2024. Addressing the issue of premature circulation of official communications, the circular mentioned, "It has come to the attention that certain communications, including notices, circulars, guidelines, instructions, and similar materials found in public domain on the name of NMC. This is to serve as a reminder that the official applicability of any such communication is effective only upon its formal publication on the National Medical Commission (NMC) website and official twitter handle (NMC_BHARAT)."
Further, the Commission added that "NMC trusts that all concerned will cooperate fully in ensuring that official channels are used for communication and that NMC’s standards are upheld."
"NMC will not vouch for authenticity of Any Letter / Communication circulating in social media which is not on its website," it clarified in the circular.
Such a circular is being issued by the Commission at a time when recently a communication mentioning the tentative date of National Eligibility-Entrance Test Postgraduate (NEET-PG) 2025 examination along with the MBBS Internship Completion Deadline was circulating on the social media platforms even before the Commission issued any official notification in this regard.
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported about the NMC communication sent to the Deans/Principals of all medical colleges/institutes under NMC and the Registrar of all Health/Medical institutes. It had been mentioned in the communication that based on the information received from the Universities regarding the issue of holding the NEET PG 2025 exam and internship completion deadline, it was decided to keep the internship deadline as 31st July 2025 and the tentative date for holding the NEET PG 2025 exam as June 15, 2025.
Although the NMC did not officially confirm the same dates at that time, the Commission later confirmed the same dates for NEET PG 2025 and Internship Completion Deadline through an official notification.
Previously, the NMC Secretary Prof B Srinivas had advised all the aspirants to wait, adding that the dates would soon be uploaded on the NMC website or the Twitter handle (NMC_BHARAT).
