NMC denies renewal of recognition to 3 MD Respiratory Medicine seats at Rohilkhand Medical College
Bareilly: In a major setback to Rohilkhand Medical College and Hospital, Bareilly, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has denied granting renewal of recognition of MD 3 (Respiratory Medicine) seats to the institute.
The regulatory body rejected the proposal based on an assessment report examined by the Postgraduate Medical Education Board(PGMEB), which found deficiencies in the said medical college in Uttar Pradesh.
The NMC’s letter of disapproval addressed to the college dean highlighted that assessors, appointed by the Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB), had conducted an assessment and prepared an Assessment Report date January 10, 2023 with respect to the standard of examination and other teaching facilities available at the medical college affiliated to Bareilly International University, Bareilly.
Based on the assessor's report, NMC turned down the proposal for the purpose of Renewal of Recognition of MD(Respiratory Medicine) qualification for 03 (02&02to03) seats.
The apex regulatory body said;
"It has been decided NOT to grant recognition to the above mentioned qualification as the college/institute has the following deficiency, which are in contravention of the norms stipulated in the Post Graduate Medical Education Regulation-2000(PGMER-2000):
i. As per the report of the Aadhaar Enabled Biometric Attendance System(AEBAS), only two Associate Professors and one Senior Resident are available in the Department, therefore, there is deficiency of one Professor."
Given the deficiencies, the NMC has sought a written explanation from the institute to the PGMEB of NMC within 30 days. It further instructed that, "The compliance report should be submitted to the PGMEB of NMC along with the requisite fee of Rs.18,000/- (which includes18% of GST) by RTGS/NEFT."
Furthermore, warning of stoppage of admission in terms of Regulation 6(2) and 6(3) of PGMER-2000 in case of non-compliance or unsatisfactory compliance, NMC explained that compliance verification report should be submitted only in the SAF prescribed for the purpose (available on the NMC website ie. www.nmc.org.in which should also include the faculty table (entire faculty including those who has already been verified).
The NMC turning down the proposal moved by the institute has added to the plight of medical colleges in the state of Uttar Pradesh. Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported that a couple of medical colleges in UP were debarred from admitting students this academic year after pointing out major deficiencies at the institutes.
