NMC discontinues QR code attendance devices, mandates Face-based Aadhaar app in medical colleges

National Medical Commission
New Delhi: Through a recent notice, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has announced its decision to discontinue facial QR code-based attendance devices from October 1, 2025.
As an alternative, the Apex Medical Commission has asked the medical colleges to ensure full implementation of the FACE-based mobile Aadhaar Authentication App.
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that back in April 2025, NMC announced that all the medical colleges and institutions would transition to a face-based Aadhaar authentication system via the NMC AEBAS platform from May 1, 2025.
The new system, which replaced the previous fingerprint-based biometric authentication, aimed to improve user-friendliness and enhance accuracy in attendance marking. NMC in the notice dated 16.04.2025 had announced that the FACE-based Aadhaar Authentication, earlier deployed in other government offices through NIC, would now be implemented across medical institutions using a mobile app-based interface.
Referring to the earlier notice, NMC in the recent notice dated 26.09.2025 mentioned, "Kind reference is invited to Public Notice No. N16015(20)/6/2025-IT-NMC (Comp. No. 8330607) dated 16-04-2025 regarding implementation of FACE based Aadhaar Authentication App effective from 01-05-2025 onwards. It was also directed that all faculties are required to install the FACE based mobile Aadhaar Authentication App to their mobile phones, as per the User Manual enclosed with the said notice."
In this regard, NMC announced its decision to discontinue with the facial QR code-based wall-mounted attendance devices and added in the notice, "In this direction, it is conveyed that facial QR code-based wall-mounted attendance devices will be discontinued and will no longer be in use starting 1st October 2025."
Accordingly, writing to the Director/Dean/Principals of all medical colleges under NMC across the country, NMC directed them to shift to Face-based mobile Aadhaar authentication app.
"Therefore, all Medical Colleges and Institutions are directed to remove the QR code-based wall-mounted attendance devices and ensure that all users have access to the designated mobile application and are familiar with the process for marking attendance via mobile app," NMC added in the notice.
