NMC notifies its Final Decision on applications to establish 113 new medical colleges
New Delhi: The Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) of the National Medical Commission (NMC) has recently notified its final decision on 113 applications regarding the establishment of new medical colleges to commence MBBS courses for the academic year 2024-2025.
The Apex Medical Commission has communicated its decision to these medical colleges through e-mail IDs to the medical institutes/colleges concerned for information and necessary action by them.
"In continuation of MARB’s Public Notice dated the 3rd April 2024, with reference to the applications received for Establishment of New UG Medical Colleges for Academic Year: 2024-25, it is informed that final decisions of MARB in respect of 113 applications have been communicated through e-mail IDs (as mentioned in online applications) to the Medical Institutions/Colleges concerned for information and necessary action by them within the stipulated timeline," NMC Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) mentioned in notice issued on 06.07.2024.
Along with the notice, NMC also attached a list containing those 113 applications including the name of the college, their application IDs and the name of the course. All these colleges had applied for starting new Undergraduate Medical Courses.
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that through the notice dated 03.04.2024, NMC released a list of new medical colleges that applied to start MBBS courses and the existing colleges seeking permission to increase the MBBS seats for the academic year 2024-2025.
The Apex Medical Commission informed that it received altogether 170 online applications from 161 medical colleges in this regard and it has also sent communications through the email IDs to the concerned medical institutes for information and necessary action.
"With reference to the applications received from Medical Colleges/ Institutions to establish new medical colleges or Increase of MBBS seats in existing Medical Colleges for Academic Year: 2024- 25, it is informed that communications in respect of 170 online applications have been sent through the email IDs (as mentioned in online applications) to the Medical Institutions/Colleges concerned for information and necessary action by them within the stipulated timeline," NMC mentioned in the public notice 03.04.2024.
The Commission had notified through the public notice dated 02.04.2024 that it had finalised the application process for the academic year 2024-2025 and it also shared the process of applications for the establishment of new medical colleges and increasing MBBS seats.
As per NMC, the applications for setting up new medical colleges and increase of MBBS seats were processed by - scrutiny of applications on various levels, AEBAS registration and compliance submission, physical inspection and review and final decision. It also informed that NMC will publish the results after completion of the whole process and before the first round of counselling.
It also informed that the applications for increasing MBBS seats at existing medical institutes were processed by following the steps including - scrutiny of applications on various levels, AEBAS and compliance submission, review of compliance report/affidavit/self-assessment /AEBAS data, final decision, and publication of results.
NMC further highlighted that as per UG-MSR 2023, colleges seeking an increase of the number of seats cannot exceed a total of 150 MBBS students from the year 2024-2025.
"With the exception that the colleges who had applied for Academic Year 2023-24 for increase seats but failed to get the same, can ask for the number (totaling 200 or 250) that was in their previous application for one time in the year 2024-25 only," NMC added.
