NMC seeks participation from medical colleges, faculty, students in Deafblindness awareness quiz, online course to promote inclusion

New Delhi: The National Medical Commission (NMC) has called upon medical colleges and institutions across India to encourage their faculty members and students to participate in an Awareness Quiz and a five-day online course on deafblindness as part of efforts to promote inclusion and awareness about the disability.
The International Day of Deafblindness is observed globally on 27 th June every year to raise awareness about deafblindness and to promote the rights, inclusion, and well-being of persons with deafblindness. The date holds special significance as it marks the birth anniversary of Helen Keller, the renowned deafblind author, educator, and advocate for the rights and education of persons with disabilities.
Therefore, in a public notice issued by the NMC in this regard, the Commission has stated that in observance of this occasion, the Department of School Education & Literacy has organised an Awareness Quiz to promote greater understanding of deafblindness and to highlight the need for accessible education, effective communication, and inclusive opportunities for persons with disabilities. The quiz has been developed for school students, teachers, and the general public.
According to the public notice, the quiz is live on the MyGov Quiz Platform from 6 th July 2026 and can be accessed through the link mentioned in the notice.
Further, the notice stated that to enhance awareness and build the capacity of key stakeholders, CIET-NCERT, in collaboration with 'Sense International India', has developed a five-day online awareness course titled "Understanding Deaf-Blindness."
The course aims to sensitise teachers, special educators, caregivers, students, and the general public on the causes and characteristics of deafblindness, effective communication strategies, assistive technologies, and the support systems required to ensure the inclusion and participation of persons with deafblindness.
Hence, all Medical Colleges and Institutes are requested to encourage their faculty members and students to participate in both the 'MyGov Awareness Quiz' and the five-day online course, "Understanding Deaf-Blindness."
