NMC withdraws permission for MCh Neurosurgery at MAMC, medicos to be shifted to GIPMER
New Delhi: The Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) of the National Medical Commission (NMC) has withdrawn the Letter of Permission (LoP) issued to the Maulana Azad Medical College, New Delhi (MAMC) for 2 seats in MCh Neuro Surgery.
Subsequently, writing a letter to the Director of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), Govt of NCT of Delhi, the Commission declared that the students admitted in 2022 and 2023 in the said course at MAMC to be shifted to GIPMER, Delhi till the completion of their course.
Withdrawal of LOP
The decision to withdraw the LoP was taken in a joint meeting conducted under the Chairmanship of the President of NMC Postgraduate Medical Education Board (PGMEB) on 30.01.2024.
MAMC had requested the NMC for withdrawal of LoP for the starting of course for 2 seats in MCh Neuro Surgery for the academic year 2021-2022 also valid for AY 2022-2023. Accordingly, NMC has granted its permission in this regard.
In a letter addressed to the Dean/Principal of MAMC on 14.03.2024, NMC informed about its decision and mentioned, "I am directed to refer to your letter no and F.(56)/Deptt. of NSX/ 805LNH/2018- 19/part-11/10787 dated 22-05-2023 on the subject cited above. The request made by you for withdrawal of Letter of Permission (LoP) for starting of course for 2 Seats in M.CH(Neuro-Surgery) at Maulana Azad Medical College, New Delhi for the Academic Year 2021-22 also valid for AY 2022-23 was duly considered in this Commission and in accordance with the decision taken in a joint meeting under the Chairmanship of President (PGMEB),NMC ON 30.01.2024, the Letter of Permission (LoP) issued vide Letter no NMC/PG(ss)/ND/03(3M.Ch)2021-22/002551-60 dt 09-02-2022 and M-19011/17/2022- PGMARB/054424 dated 30-12-2022 is hereby withdrawn for the annual intake of 2 seats in M.CH (Neuro-Surgery) course for the Academic Year 2021-22 which was also valid for AY 2022-23."

MCh Neuro Surgery Students to be Shifted from MAMC to GIPMER:
Last year, the institute had requested the Commission to shift 2 students of MCh Neurosurgery from Maulana Azad Medical College Delhi to the Neurosurgery Department of Govind Ballabh Pant Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education & Research (GIPMER), Govt. of NCT of Delhi.
The issue was discussed in NMC's joint meeting held under the Chairmanship of the President of PGMEB on 30.01.2024. Following this, NMC decided to shift the students admitted to the said course in 2022 and 2023 to shift from MAMC to GIPMER.
Writing to the Director of DGHS, GNTCD, NMC mentioned, "With reference to the letter no and F.(56)/Deptt. of NSX/ 805LNH/2018-19/part11/10787 dated 22-05-2023 of Maulana Azad Medical College, Delhi , vide which it was ,inter alia, requested to shift of 2 students of M.Ch(Neurosurgery) from Maulana Azad Medical College (MAMC) Delhi to Neurosurgery Department of Govind Ballabh Pant Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education & Research (GIPMER),Govt. of Nct of Delhi and in accordance with the decision taken in a joint meeting under the Chairmanship of President (PGMEB),NMC on 30.01.2024, it has been decided that the students admitted in the year 2022 and 2023 in this course in MAMC,may be shifted to GIPMER, Delhi till the completion of their course. Accordingly , you are requested to take the necessary action to shift the students to GIPMER, Delhi immediately."
Asking the State to ensure the budget to provide stipend to the students shifted to GIPMER, the Commission further added in the letter dated 14.03.2024, "State Govt. of NCT of Delhi will provide necessary budget for the stipend of students shifted to GIPMER till the completion of their course."
