Only MBBS doctors can register on NMR portal for now, provision for Registration of additional qualifications to be available soon: NMC
New Delhi: The Ethics and Medical Registration Board (EMRB) of the National Medical Commission (NMC) has suggested that doctors access the National Medical Register (NMR) portal only through the Commission's website for the sake of authenticity. Further, the Apex Medical Commission's Ethics Board has also stated that currently, only the provision for the Registration of Basic Qualification (MBBS) is available on the NMR portal and the provision for Registration of additional qualification(s) would be made available on the portal shortly.
NMC EMRB mentioned these details in a recent notice, which was shared by the Commission to inform about the commencement of registration of RMPs on the National Medical Register portal.
"Reference is invited to Public Notice no. R. 15014/Gen/(12)/2023- Regn. of the Ethics & Medical Registration Board (EMRB) regarding commencement of registration of Registered Medical Practitioners (RMPs) on National Medical Register (NMR) Portal of the National Medical Commission, the contents of which are self- explanatory. All concerned stakeholders are requested to kindly take note of the same," the recent notice dated 30.08.2024 issued by the NMC Secretary Dr B Srinivas stated.
National Medical Commission (NMC) is mandated under Section 31 of the NMC Act, 2019 that the Ethics & Medical Registration Board (EMRB) of NMC shall maintain a National Register in electronic form containing the name, address, all recognized qualifications possessed by a licensed medical practitioner.
NMR will be a dynamic database for all allopathic (MBBS) registered doctors in India. The uniqueness of the NMR is that it is linked with the Aadhaar ID of the doctors which ensures the individual's authenticity. The whole process of registration in NMR is very simple online process and all the medical colleges/institutions (including INIs etc.)/SMCs are interlinked on the portal. Some data will be visible to the public and others will only be visible to EMRB in NMC, SMC, NBE and Medical Institutions (including INIs, etc.) and RMPs as per the requirements.
Referring to the NMR, the Ethics Board mentioned in the concerned notice that on 23rd August 2024, the Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare and Chemical and Fertilizers, Shri Jagat Prakash Nadda, inaugurated the NMR Portal for registration of all the MBBS doctors, who are eligible for registration in India.
Mentioning that NMR is ready for registration of RMPs with immediate effect, the notice further added, "All the MBBS doctors who are already registered on Indian Medical Register (IMR) have to register again on the NMR of the NMC. To start the registration, the doctor need to keep ready a digital copy of the Degree (MBBS) Certificate, the Registration Certificate of the State Medical Council/Medical Council of India, where the doctor got first time registration. The doctor must also keep ready the Aadhaar number to start the process."
Registration of Basic Qualifications only:
The Ethics Board of NMC has informed that currently, the doctors can only register their basic qualifications on the NMR portal. However, the provision to register additional qualifications will be made available soon.
"It is worthy to mention that for the present provision for Registration of basic qualification(MBBS degree) only is available on the NMR Portal. Provision for Registration of additional qualification(s) would be made available on the portal shortly," the notice stated.
Documents Available on the NMR Portal:
The notice mentioned that the registration link for the NMR portal is available on the NMC Website.
It also mentioned that the NMR Portal contains the following documents/information for the assistance of the doctors and the SMCs/NBE/Universities/Colleges etc.:
(i) User Manual for Registration Process of RMPs
(ii) Manual for Verification Process by NMC/SMCs/NBE/Universities/Colleges
(iii) SOPs for verification process of RMPs
(iv) Video regarding registration process of RMP
(v) FAQs
Access NMR Portal only Through NMC Website:
Through the notice, the Ethics Board of NMC suggested that "NMR portal may be accessed only through NMC website for the sake of authenticity."
For any queries regarding the issue, the Commission has recommended that the queries regarding registration should be sent on the NMR portal on email ID mentioned in the notice.
