Jharkhand Surgeon gets suspension orders for prescribing condoms to female patient for treating stomach ache
Jharkhand: A government doctor has been handed over his suspension orders for prescribing condoms to a female patient who was suffering from stomach ache.
The dismissal order against Ghatsila sub-divisional hospital (GSDH) surgeon came after a three-member probe committee formed by the East Singhbhum’s deputy commissioner (DC) confirmed the charges against him in its report.
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that the incident that took place in a government hospital where the doctor was working on a contractual basis. The female patient went to the doctor for stomach pain treatment on July 23 at the government hospital in of West Singhbhum district.
She was given a prescription by the doctor. The patient went to a medical shop with the prescription where she informed by the shopkeeper that the prescribed medicine was a condom.
The woman complained about the matter to senior doctors. The issue was further raised by Jharkhand Mukti Morcha legislator Kunal Sarangi in the assembly.
On the basis of the complaint, a medical team with one psychiatrist was constituted to probe the entire issue, which began the probe on July 28th 2019.
“Based on the complaint of the woman, a medical team has been constituted which has started the probe,” In-charge of the government hospital had informed. The doctor in question had denied the allegation.

Speaking on the earlier suspension of the surgeon, East Singhbhum’s civil surgeon Dr Maheshwar Prasad informed HT, “He was dismissed from the service earlier also for several charges of misconduct but was reinstated only after a written undertaking of not repeating mistakes."
“He would not conduct an autopsy of the dead bodies at Ghatsila post mortem house and refer all such cases to MGMMCH (Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College and Hospital) in Jamshedpur, causing many problems to GSDH authorities and families of the deceased. He was earlier also charged for teasing and flirting with a nurse,” a certain source informed the daily.
