Ajanta Pharma Limited is an Indian multinational pharmaceutical company with its headquarters in Mumbai. The company was co-founded by Mannalal Agrawal and his two brothers Madhu Sudan Agrawal and Purshottam Agrawal in the year 1973. The brothers used to manufacture and supply small, Over-The-Counter drugs to doctors. However, due to cut throat competition with well-established Pharma biggies during that time, they could not prove themselves in the market until 1990. The company gained a significant amount of public attention and created quite a stir in the Indian markets with the launch of their herbal energizer 30-Plus in the year 1990, which was advertised by Jitendra, who was a very famous Bollywood veteran and the brand ambassador. The product was later on acquired by Dabur India Ltd. in 2011.

The company was in a bad condition in 2000, with a loss of almost Rs. 1 crore and a debt of Rs. 130 crore. Yogesh Agrawal and and Rajesh Agrawal, sons of Mannan Agrawal, who returned to India from US in 2000 came to know about the condition of the company. They decided to make specialty drugs in the areas of ophthalmology, dermatology, cardiovascular and pain management. Gradually, the company’s conditions improved and its share jumped from Rs. 16 in 2010 to almost Rs. 2100 in 2015. The years 2015 to 2019 remained years of consolidation for the company.

The company markets Branded Generics in Asia, Africa and in the USA markets. It supplies anti-malarial drugs to Africa. The company’s business is spread across India and it has a global presence in more than thirty countries across Africa, South East Asia, West Asia, and Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). The company also has Institutional business and provides healthcare products to a number of Indian Government bodies. The company has seven manufacturing plants in India that are involved in the production of active pharmaceutical ingredients and finished formulations. Dahej, Paithan and Guwahati are some of the locations where the company has established its manufacturing units. The company established its first manufacturing factory in 1979, in Chikalthana, Maharashtra. The first Over-The-Counter product that was produced and launched by the company in the year 1979 was the Pinkoo Gripe Water.
