Centaur Pharmaceuticals Private Limited is an Indian multinational pharmaceutical company with its headquarters in Mumbai, India. The company was founded by S. D Sawant along with S. K. Rangnekar and M. B. Padgaonkar in the year 1978. It was incorporated as a private limited company on the 15th of October in the year 1980. The company’s founder Sawant joined the Mumbai police after the completion of his studies and served as a sub inspector but he soon realized that it was not where he wanted to be. Due to his inclination towards the pharmaceutical industry, he gradually became a part of the German medicine company called Indo Pharma and took management positions. With this he entered into the medicine sector in 1960. He served the company for a long time until 1978 when he decided to set up his own company along with two of his colleagues from his previous work place. Rangnekar and Padgaonkar were also employed at Indo Pharma. Henceforth, Centaur Pharmaceuticals was established in the city of Mumbai in the same year as a manufacturer of products. Later on, the company set up its manufacturing facilities in Goa and Ambernath and started with the production of its own formulations. The company went on to become India’s biggest exporter and producer of psychotropic API. The company’s famous brand Sinarest in the anti-cold segment has bagged the award Gold- ‘Brand of the Year’.

The company specializes in the therapy areas of pediatrics, anti-cold, diabetology, respiratory diseases, ENT, diabetic foot ulcer, ophthalmology, neurology and nephrology.

Centaur Pharmaceuticals Private Limited has its manufacturing facilities located at Goa and Ambernath in India. Plant I and II in Goa are involved in the production of tablets, capsules, liquid orals, creams, ointments and sterile eye ointments. The company has a production and research facility at Pune. The facilities of Centaur have received approval from various major international regulatory bodies. The company has an international presence in the countries of South East Asia, Africa and Latin America and leads the markets of Uganda and Cambodia in the anti-cold therapy area.
