Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd. is an Indian multinational pharmaceutical company with headquarters in Hyderabad. The company was founded by Kallam Anji Reddy in the year 1984. It was incorporated in the year 1984. Reddy grew up in a moderate family and he used to see his father helping the needy people by the distribution of medicines which were herbal in nature. He made them himself and did not take any money in return for those medicines. Thus, Reddy had a pharma background. Reddy was very enthusiastic about drug discovery. He started work at Indian Drugs and Pharmaceuticals Ltd. which was a pharma company owned by the state. He spent six long years here and this gave him the much needed experience in the field. Reddy left the company in the year 1973 and started two drug manufacturing companies. He then started Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories and Cheminor Drugs in collaboration, in the year 1984. Thus the company started off with a capital of Rs.25 lakh, and with the production and supply of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients with a single drug and proceeded to become a supplier and manufacturer of a range of pharmaceuticals products. The company started setting up its first production unit at Bollaram in 1984. Kallam Anji Reddy had a vision of poverty-free India following which the company aimed to provide for the economically disadvantaged group, especially the younger generation, by marketing affordable healthcare products. He established Dr. Reddy’s Foundation for Human and Social Development in the year 1995, which aims at philanthropy. He also established a hospital for the older people. Having established itself in the manufacture of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients, the company shifted its focus to finished dosages and formulations in the 1990s.

The Research and Development facilities of the company are at Hyderabad in India and Cambridge in UK.
