Emcure Pharmaceuticals Limited is an Indian pharmaceutical company with its headquarters in Pune. The company was founded by Satish Ramanlal Mehta in 1981. The company was incorporated in the year 1981. Mehta was the son of a pharma distributor and after completing his education he returned to Pune. He learned the art of pharma trade from his father and had a desire to do business of his own. He started his company Emcure in Pune with a loan of Rs. 3 lakh from the bank and just seven to eight members. The company used to manufacture products on contract basis for big, multinational pharma companies. Sometime later, Mehta started selling branded generics of his own. Apart from providing affordable healthcare facilities, the company under Mehta has taken initiatives for empowerment of female employees, environmental issues and skill development. It has taken up an initiative towards AIDS cure by supporting a pharmacy run by HIV/AIDS patients called Taal, which is for the HIV/AIDS patients. The company along with the Swiss healthcare company Roche also plans to manufacture affordable anti-cancer medications in India.

Emcure Pharmaceuticals started the operation of its first manufacturing plant in Bhosari in the year 1983. The company has a total number of fourteen manufacturing units in the country so far. It has five manufacturing plants located in Hinjawadi and two of them in Jammu. Other locations include Sikkim, Bengaluru, Mehsana, Kadu, Pimpri, Sanand and Kurkumbh. The facilities are involved in production of orals, APIs, vaccines, injectables and bio-therapeutics. The company has a Research and Development center at Gandhinagar. Emcure Pharmaceuticals has a manufacturing facility and a Research and Development center in East Brunswick, New Jersey, USA. The company has maintained its international presence by the establishment of its subsidiaries in countries like UK, Canada, Singapore and Brazil and is involved in the marketing of products in Latin America, Africa, Asia, North America and Europe.
