Franco-Indian Pharmaceuticals Pvt. Ltd. is an Indian pharmaceutical company with its headquarters in Mumbai. The company was founded in 1949 by Michael Postel and was incorporated in the year 1959. Postel, a Frenchman, visited India for the purpose of business of his own company and decided to start a new company in India. The company was known by the name Franco-Indian United Laboratories. It entered the Indian markets through its Over-The-Counter products. The low popularity of the company was because of the dominance of Ayurveda at that time. Also the company could endorse its products only through daily newspapers. The company then launched its products NEVROVITAMINE 4 ‘Adults', NEVROVITAMINE 4 'Children', ULTRAVITAMINE 4 and GLUXIUM to medical professionals. It also produced VITAMIN D therapy in three forms – oil, alcohol and drops. With limited Indian manufacturers, majority of the products of the company were imported from other countries. It was only in 1961 that the company established its manufacturing unit in Mumbai to produce and supply specialty drugs in the Indian markets, after the agreement with ‘Laboratoires Grimault’, located in France.

The company specializes in the areas of OHAs, respiratory disorders, hepato-protective, gynecology, paediatry, antioxidants and dermatology. It introduced the oral Penicillin in India which was the first of its kind and a very efficient yet affordable drug called Metformin for the treatment of diabetes. The company has contributed in the treatment of Vitiligo, Psoriasis with its product called Melanocyl and has also worked on Hepatic problems. The company started Wardex Pharmaceutical Pvt. Ltd. in the Anti-anaemic and Bronchodilators fields. The unit is also involved in the preparation of cough and cold products. Another major manufacturing unit of the company is located in the city of Chennai by the name Franco-Indian Remedies Pvt. Ltd. The production units of the company are also situated at Kolkata in West Bengal, Sahibabad in Uttar Pradesh and Chennai in Tamil Nadu. Franco-Indian Pharmaceuticals Pvt. Ltd. has expanded internationally by the export of its products to countries like Asia, Africa, United States of America, UK and France.
