Fresenius Kabi AG is a German multinational pharmaceutical company with its headquarters in Bad Homburg, Germany. The company was founded by Eduard Fresenius in the year 1912. The origin of the company can be traced back to the year 1462, when Hirsch Pharmacy was established in Germany at Frankfurt am Main. The pharmacy was later acquired by the Fresenius family somewhere around the 19th century. In the year 1912, Eduard Fresenius set up a company called Dr. E. Fresenius. Fresenius worked as a pharmacist in Hirsch Pharmacy and was also the proprietor. The company under him was involved in the manufacture of pharmaceutical products like injectables, serologic reagents and a nasal ointment called the Bormelin. After a few years, the pharmaceutical company got detached from the pharmacy and shifted base to Bad Homburg in Germany. With gradual yet continuous growth, Dr. E. Fresenius now employed four hundred workers. The company also got involved in the sale of foreign products like dialysis machine and dialyzers to expand its market presence. It started production in the town of St. Wendel. With the acquisition of the global business of the company Pharmacia & Upjohn (Kabi) in the year 1998, the company was transformed into Fresenius Kabi in the year 1999 and became a leader in nutraceuticals and infusion therapy. It has made several major acquisitions during its growth. The company is a wholly owned subsidiary of Fresenius SE & Co. KGaA which is also a German healthcare company.
