Macleods Pharmaceuticals Limited is an Indian multinational pharmaceutical company with its headquarters in Mumbai. Rajendra Agarwal, Founder and Managing Director of Macleods Pharmaceuticals, founded the company in the year 1986, along with his two brothers - Girdhari Lal and Banwari Lal. The company got incorporated as a Public Limited company on 5th of June in the year 1989 and is the seventh largest pharma company in India. The Agarwal family was the owner of a pharmacy in the city of Jaipur. The brothers made up their minds to start their company called Macleods Pharmaceuticals with the goal of manufacturing anti-tuberculosis and anti-infective medicines. Gradually with the growth of their business, the company became an international supplier of anti-tuberculosis medicines. Macleods established its first Research and Development center in the year 2000 in Mumbai, Maharashtra. This paved way for research and further growth of the company. At the time of its start, the company was mainly involved in anti-tuberculosis and anti-infective drug production. However, it broadened its scope with the passage of time and included the therapeutic areas of diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, NSAIDs, anti-arthritis, anti-osteoporotic, gynecology, orthopedics, respiratory and oncology. The company also started manufacturing drugs for the treatment of diseases like malaria and HIV. While Agarwal is the Managing Director, Girdhari Lal is the Joint Managing Director and Banwari Lal is the Chairman of the company.
