Maneesh Pharmaceuticals Limited is an Indian multinational pharmaceutical company with its headquarters in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. The company was founded by Vinay Sapte in the year 1975. Maneesh Pharmaceuticals was incorporated on the 25th of July in the year 1985. The founder Sapte started his career in business with the sale of the traditional Indian wear saree at a time when he was still in college. He then switched to supplying animal glands to pharmaceutical companies and entered the industry with a so-called “dirty job”. The first capital expenditure of fourteen thousand rupees that was made by Sapte was that for a Bajaj Tempo. On completion of his studies, he chose to continue business over a decent job. With this, he established a small plant to facilitate the supply animal products from his slaughterhouse to various pharmaceutical companies. The problem began when the firms had to give up animal based products due to the emergence of the HIV virus. This was a major setback for the company and Sapte had to divert his activities towards drug supplying. The company set up its research facility in the year 1991 and became manufacturers from suppliers. It further expanded its business on the global level in 1994. Maneesh Pharmaceuticals played an important role during the 'TB Emergency' in the year 1999 and launched a capsule for the treatment of the disease. In order to prove its merit, the company acquired Sigma Labs, a company in loss, and turned it into a profitable one.
