Mankind Pharma is an Indian multinational pharmaceutical company with its headquarters in Okhla Phase III, New Delhi. It was founded by Ramesh C. Juneja and Rajeev Juneja in 1995 and was incorporated in the year 1991. Juneja had humble beginnings in the 1970s, when he began his career as a Medical Representative in a company called Lupin Pharma. The realization of poor economy in rural areas dawned upon him which led him to believe that there was a strong need for affordable healthcare. With this idea in mind, he started off with a company called BestoChem Pharma in partnership with Vijay Prakash and his brothers Rajeev and Girish Juneja. The company started off with a seed capital of Rs 1 lakh and was involved in the sale of antibiotics and painkillers. Sometime later, a split in the company occurred due to which Juneja and brothers established a separate company called Mankind Pharma in Meerut, with an investment of just Rs.50 lakhs which they had obtained as their share in BestoChem. At that time, the company had only twenty Medical Representatives and three managers. The target areas of the company were the tier II and III towns and rural areas of western Uttar Pradesh, mainly around Meerut, with the goal of providing quality healthcare that was very much affordable by all. The company shifted to Delhi in 2002 and launched its first drug for treating high Blood pressure. One of its major contributions was the affordability of its HIV treatment which was extremely high- priced during that time. The company is known for its massive discounts and free products. Due to these policies adopted by the company, its turnover shot up from Rs.3.8 crore in 1995 to Rs.350 crore in 2005 and has been getting bigger since then.

The company specializes in the areas of anti-infectives, gastro-intestinal disorders, gynecology, cardiovascular disorders, psychiatry disorders, dermatology and erectile dysfunction.

The company has its manufacturing facilities located in Himachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh and Uttrakhand. It has international presence in Asia, Africa, CIS and South-East Asia. Recently, the company has launched Mankind Agritech Pvt. Ltd., another technology-aided rural development strategy, according to which the company will be providing to the farmers of India, crop care solutions that will include insecticides, fungicides and plant growth regulators.
