Mylan Pharmaceutical is an American multinational pharmaceutical company with its headquarters in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, United States. The company was founded by Don Panoz and Milan Puskar in the year 1961. The duo met during their service in the U.S. Army where both of them were in the same unit and posted in Japan. On their return to their country, they decided to jointly set up their own pharmaceutical company called the Mylan Pharmaceuticals which was based in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia. It was Panoz who came up with the idea and he approached his friend Puskar to join him. Their mission was to solve the problem of pricey medicines that were being sold to villages and smaller cities owing to their inaccessibility in such places. Panoz and Puskar received their products from a supplier called Stanley Tutag. After some time, the company began to expand. It was during this time that Bernard Herman, a drug-maker, joined the business and informed Panoz and Puskar about a production unit in Pennsauken, New Jersey. Henceforth, the company started mass production in 1962 with only a few employees. However, both Panoz and Puskar resigned from their company one after the other and again started working together in Ireland at Elan Pharmaceuticals. Back in Morgantown, Mylan was detoriating and a request was sent to Puskar to rejoin and save it, to which he agreed. He remained a part of the company until 2009. The company has now been converted to Viatris which is a US-based company, following its merger with Upjohn in the year 2019. Upjohn was founded in 1886 by William E. Upjohn and is a division of the American pharmaceutical company Pfizer Inc.
